We have created major Research Institutes to pursue new scientificapproaches to some of the world’s most pressing concerns.

We created a 13-week residential training programme to develop knowledge, understanding and skills related to university leadership and management in the UK.

We worked with the China Scholarship Council, who sent a total of 194 delegates on this programme between 2016 and 2018.

The aim was to assist the development of the university sector in China. Particular focus was on innovation practice in UK higher education, within the context of teaching, research and engagement activity.

Delivered by Cardiff Business School, the programme also included significant input from senior Professional Services staff and academics to showcase the breadth of innovation taking place throughout the University.

The programme also included meetings with senior staff,

tours of departments,

English language sessions,visits and

networking events.

DESCRIBING AND CLASSIFYING DEFORMED ROCKS

Client: Mount Isa MinesDuration: ½ day workshop (a related online course in structural geology is also now available - check our website for details)Trainees: 14 mining geologists working at Mount Isa Mines in Australia

Professor Tom Blenkinsop, from Cardiff School of Earth & Ocean Sciences, specialises in structural geology for exploration and mining.

The workshop he delivered explored the possible controls on the ore bodies at Mount Isa, one of the company’s mining sites and which is the home of Australia’s second largest producing copper mine as well as one of the largest silver-lead-zinc deposits in the world.

The workshop addressed both brittle and ductile deformed rocks, deformation mechanisms and crustal structure.

Dr Tong Man-Chiu, Hong Kong2018 DERMOSCOPY PROGRAMME

Client: Guizhou UniversityDuration: 4 monthsTrainees: 10 delegates

Academics from Guizhou University arrived in Cardiff in September 2018 to undertake this programme.

The programme consisted of different elements, including teaching sessions from the School of Social Sciences, lecture observations within the delegates’ own teaching discipline, English Language support and cultural excursions.

The programme was a great success with 100% of the feedback given by the delegates rating the programme as having a high impact.

Guizhou University were very pleased with the programme and in Autumn 2019 they sent another 16 delegates from a range of arts, humanities, social sciences, and engineering backgrounds.

INNOVATIVE TEACHING PRACTICE

Client: Open programme, available worldwideDuration: 12 weeks, fully onlineTrainees: Doctors involved in the care of dermatology patients with skin lesions

Dermoscopy is a non-invasive, widely used diagnostic tool that aids the diagnosis of skin lesions, proven to increase the accuracy of melanoma diagnosis.

Cardiff University run this highly successful online course twice annually.

The course has been developed by leading dermatologists in the field of dermoscopy. Participants complete a new topic every 2 weeks, followed by an assessment. The course is available worldwide; our last course included delegates in over 11 countries. We consistently receive excellent feedback and demand for course is continually oversubscribed.

Plans are underway for further dermoscopy short courses to satisfy a demand for Cardiff University expertise in this field.
