Executive Summary

Introduction

The AUC administration is rigorously pursuing means to achieve one of its main strategic objectives, which is

'Internationalizing the campus through diversity and global exposure'. This survey will help administration assess

AUC as Egypt's Global University by assessing opinions of international students regarding various aspects of their

experience at AUC. Furthermore, the results of the survey will be used to help ISL improve international students’

overall experience at AUC.

This survey was developed by the Office of International Student Life (ISL), in collaboration with the Office of Data

Analytics and Institutional Research (DAIR).

Methodology and Organization of the Report

The Office of Data Analytics and Institutional Research (DAIR) emailed 305 survey invitations to international students

on May 14th, 2017, followed by one reminder sent on May 17th, 2017. From the total number of international

students, 54 responded to the survey for a response rate of 18%.

This report consists of two parts:

• Close-ended Questions This includes all close-ended questions regarding ratings, rankings and feedback presented as frequencies and charts.

• Open-ended Questions This includes lists of all answers for the questions requesting suggestions and/or recommendations organized by themes.

Response:

Get out & immerse yourself. Good luck! Stay focused. Be wary with your spending. Don't go to Khan el Khalili. They will take advantage of you and leave you feeling less than human.

Find a different University that actually cares

AUC is a good place to study and experience Egypt. It will be wise for them to consider enrolling.

Get out to other areas of Cairo and Egypt, do not stay in the AUC/New Cairo bubble

stay away?

Try to get out of the AUC/Tagomaa bubble. It's really different from the rest of Cairo

I would advise them to see as much of Egypt as possible with friends in order to get to know the country better.

Do not attend AUC if you're not comfortable living in a third world country.

Respecting a culture and letting others dictate what you can and cannot do are two different things.

Be patient as it will work out eventually Grasp the opportunity to study in the Middle East and make the most out of it. It is only when you experience this part of the world that you will see how misunderstood a region it is. Study, travel, learn the language and get involved.
