What is ePhyto? ePhyto is short for “electronic phytosanitary certificate”
The ePhyto Solution is a system managed by the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC), and designed, developed and hosted by the United Nations International computing Centre (UNICC).
The system has 3 core components: Harmonization, the Hub and the GeNS

ePhyto BenefitsSecurity: The use of electronic phytosanitary certificates (ePhytos) willminimize significantly the possibility of fraudulent certificates andcontaminated cargo getting through customs.
Boarder process efficiency: The ePhyto System allows the verification, andif needed, the change of the phytosanitary certificate before the consignmentarrives at the border. Thus once the product arrives all paper work issues areaddressed and all that is needed is the inspection or tests.
Global Coverage: All countries using the ePhyto System can exchangewith one another without the need of bilateral agreements.

ePhyto InitiativesIndustry and ePhyto: Industry representatives via the ePhyto Industry Advisory Group (IAG) are working to provide expertise regarding the commercial implications of the ePhyto Solution through the use of case studies. Initial finds are positive but we need more data and results in order to obtain a solid overview of the system’s benefits and areas of improvement. We welcome NPPOs, exporters, importers, and industry representatives to get involved. Check out the Industry and ePhyto engagement document to find out more!
The ePhyto Case studies are supported by:
ePhyto InitiativesePhyto is committed to the Sustainable Development Goals: The ePhyto Solution is a tool that aims to advance the protection of global plant resources and facilitate safe trade. Through the use of the ePhyto Solution countries will be able to exchange phytosanitary certificates in a more secure and efficient manner, which in turn will facilitate stronger management of pest spread, minimize crop loss and increase food security. The positive impact of these outcomes will contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals hereby shown.
