Stellenbosch offers the ideal location from which to explore the Winelands and Cape Peninsula. Academic TownStellenbosch University is one of the oldest universities in South Africa, dating back to 1866. A century-long tradition of quality education and research has ensured the University a place among the finest academic intuitions in the world.
Church Street – Tourist HubChurch street is a buzzing tourist area with loads of attractions, restaurants, coffee shops, curios, art and gift shops. It starts at Bird Street and ends at Drostdy Street with the historic “Moederkerk” (church). It’s a short 350m walk from start to end, but can easily consume hours of your time. Make sure to stop for more information at the Stellenbosch Wine Routes office at 47 Church Street.
Historic Town CentreVisitors will experience the culture, tradition and true romance of Stellenbosch by strolling through the old town centre. Many buildings date as far back as the 1700’s. Get a walking map from the Stellenbosch Wine Routes Visitor entre at 47 Church Street, enabling you to explore at our leisure.
Dorp Street StrollStellenbosh’s famous Dorp Street is a quaint oak lined street and offers one of the longest rows of old buildings in southern Africa. Take an easy stroll down this charming old-world streetand admire the beautiful Cape Dutch architecture, restaurants, boutiques and coffee shops. The distance from end to end is about 1km but you can start and end your walk at any point.

Safety Tips
As a guest in Stellenbosch, your safety and well-being are of the utmost importance. As in other countries, there are a few universal safety precautions you should keep in mind in South African to ensure that your stay is as pleasant and safe as possible.
At The Airport• Make sure your bags and luggage have locks and
name tags.
• Watch out for staged mishaps, like someone bumping into you or spilling a drink. This could be a ply to divert your attention and rob you.
• Do not allow people to tamper with your bags.
• When seeking directions, proceed to marked information counters only.
At The Hotel / Guesthouse• Report any suspicious, unattended luggage or
parcels to the personnel at reception.
• Never leave your luggage unattended unless it is locked away in your room.
• Store valuables in a safety deposit box.
• Keep your room locked.
• If someone knocks, check who it is before opening the door. Contact reception if you have any reason for concern.
• Hand your keys in whenever you leave.
• Make sure that luggage is only given to the bell staff and a receipt is issued for stored luggage.
