Indian Menopause Society in collaboration with World Health Organization (SEARO) organized a

concensus meeting of two days at Chandigarh on 30th November and 1st December to develop a

Menopause Management Manual for the General Practitioners & Nurses/Midwives with reference

to South East Asian Region Countries.

Dr. Neelam Aggarwal, President IMS & Chairperson Peer Review Committee of IMS convened this

prestigious regional meeting with expert resource persons from South East Asian Region, APMF &

safoms, Dr. Meeta Co. Chairperson Peer reveiew Committee and her team of Office Bearers. These

representatives of 10 countries from South East Asian Region: Bangladesh, Bhutan, Democratic

People’s Republic of Korea, India, Indonesia, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Thailand

met with an aim to:

Assess the health care burden of morbidities & disabilities related to menopause and

existing health care services in the SEA region.

Develop manuals for physicians & nursing personnel to increase their knowledge level to

promote the health of menopausal women

The objective of this Expert group meeting was successfully achieved and now IMS will be actively

implementing the education of primary care practitioners all over India.

With global population aging we are facing substantial social, economic and health-care issues. Aging is an

inevitable fact of life and relates closely to a wide spectrum of metabolic and other chronic diseases.

Menopause is an endocrinological transition strongly influencing health and disease susceptibility of all

middle-aged and elderly women. It is often seen as a turning point in the process. As we are living longer,

women can now spend up to a third of their life in a post-menopausal state. The primary aim of menopause

care is to provide women with assessment, advice and treatment which can improve quality of life and

promote health into the post-reproductive years. If the menopause is properly managed, particularly from the

beginning, women may lower their risk for many of the common, life-threatening diseases that can mark their

next quarter-century and beyond. But unfortunately there is a huge unmet need for the same.

In most of the SEAR countries there is lack of specialist services and even general and family physicians do not

have menopause specific health care knowledge. The Indian Menopause Society (IMS) has been doing

pioneering work for the health of menopausal women in India. IMS being a multidisciplinary organization

under the able Presidentship of Dr. Neelam Aggarwal was requested to develop these manuals for the

physicians and nurses for care of menopausal women in SEA region. Reperesentaives from global

29th November 2019 ISBMR CME on Osteoporosis Menopause Society, Hyderabad in association with ISBMR Organised a Master Class on “Osteoporosis”

at Govt. Maternity Hospital, Petlabruj on 29th November 2019. The cme had an attendance of more

theN seventy Gynaecologists.

The CME was coordinated by Dr. Sandhya Dixit, Jt Secretary MSH, she welcomed the gathering and

requested Dr. Lakshmi Rathna to preside over the cme. It was inaugurated by senior Gynaecologists

Dr. Hemalatah Rangachary and Dr. Garuda Lakshmi , HOD, Gyneac Dept. along with others.

The first Session speakers were: Dr. Mahalakshmi G. spoke on -Basic Concepts. Dr. Mahitha Reddy

spoke on Diagnosis, Clinical Assessment and Investigations. The second session had: Dr.Anupama Hari,

she spoke on - Non Pharmacological Management of PMO & Dr. Rajeshwari spoke on

Pharmacological Management of PMO. The last session was Panel discussion on “Osteoporosis” jointly

moderated by Dr. Garuda Laksmi & Dr. Aruna Suman. The Panelists were Dr. Swaroopa, Dr. Madhavi,

Dr. Aruna Kumari, Dr. Uma, Dr. Nabeela, Dr. Vineela & Dr. Leela

It was very interactive session with many case scenarios.

and Junior doctors of NMCH.In presence of President PMS Dr Usha Didwania, Quiz masters- Dr Renu

Rohatgi & Dr Nibha Mohan and scorer Dr. Raj Rani Chaudhry and Dr Ranjana did their job perfectly.

17th November 2019 A Health Check Up Cum Awareness Camp

Patna Menopause Society with POGS organised a health check up cum awareness camp at

Amarpura high school, Naubatpur-- 35 km from Patna town. Approx 60 patitents were examined &

underwent Hb°/. And Blood sugar examination. About 45°/. Came out to be anaemic. Various

Health awareness talks were given --prevention of Ca Cx and Ca breast.

A group of students of the school presented a cancer awareness Nukad drama liked by all.

Overall it was a very satisfying health awareness camp.

14th November 2019 – Organised a Free Check up Camp in Association with the Rotary Club

Raipur menopause society has organised a free check up camp in association with the Rotary club

capital on the occasion of world Diabetes day.Doctors of various fraternity like gynaecologist,

physician, orthopedician,ophthalmologist, dentist, psytrist and physiotherapist were available.Free

CBC, lipid profile, blood sugar, HBA1c,thyroid profile BMD and ECG was done.About 100 peoples

were registered and benefitted by the camp.Dr Sushma verma, Secretary Raipur menopause

society.Examined 30 women between the age of 35-65 yrs. She gave a lecture on control of

diabetes, weight loss and importance of life style modifications and exercise during peri

menopause and menopause.At the end of the camp there was a interactive session between the

doctors of various fraternity and patients, and a question answer session. It was a successful camp.

mineral Density camp along with B P monitoring, Hb % and RBS estimation, which was attended by

and rest were normal.

10th November 2019 IMS – ISCCP Workshop on Cervical Cancer Screening and Colposcopy

Pune Menopause Society and ISCCP organized a workshop on Cervical Cancer Screening and

Colposcopy at Bharati Vidyapeeth Hospital, Gynaec Dept. on 10th Nov. 2019, from 9.00am to

4.00pm.It was attended by 60 delegates which included Practicing Gynaecologist, Teachers and

Postgraduate students. After Welcome Address by Pune menopause Secretary Dr. Shubhada

Jathar, Workshop was inaugurated by President ISCCP Dr. Saritha Shamsunder by digital Ganesh

Pooja. Dr. Tushar Panchnadikar, HOD, Gyn Dept, BVH informed the delegates about the institute

and welcomed the delegates. Topics discussed covered HPV Vaccination, Cervical Cancer

Screening Guidelines,by IMS members. Role of Colposcopy in Management of LSIL and HSIL.

Differennt Modalities of Treatment of HSIL like Ablation, Excision, and LEEP were elaborated by

experts from ISCCP. Delegates were guided by the Faculty, on use the of equipments and

instruments with lot of practical tips. New Mobile colposcope and Visual Pap were introduced by

CEO of Mobile ODT. Video Colposcope and Mobile Colposcope Hands on Demonstration was then

given by Dr. Saritha Shamsunder and Dr. Vijay Zutshi .

MHCC On 5th of every month - You are requested to establish a “Midlife Healthcare

One Osteoporosis detection camp was organised under the AEGIS of Jammu Menopause Society

USG method. Free consultation, distribution of Vit D and Calcium samples was also provided.

Patiala Menopause Society organised Varisht Mahila Swasthya Yojna camp in the OPD of OBGY

medical college and RH Patiala. 42 perimenopausal and Menopausal women are examined by

gynae, Orthopaedics and medical specialists. History, GP examination, breast, and gynae check

was done. PAP smear and BMD were done in all women. Calcium, analgesics, AlbendazoI was

given to them.Health awareness talk was given.
