Bible Engagement Movement


The Purpose of WEAThe World Evangelical Alliance is a global association of national alliances, regional alliances, global partners and associated ministries who gather to 1. advance the Good News of Jesus Christ,2. strengthen the evangelical church around the world &3. seek holiness, justice and renewal at every level of

society - individual, family, community and culture – so that God is glorified and the nations of the earth are transformed.


To do this we need to have…

Hebrews 4:12For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two- edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

2 Timothy 3:16-17All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.

1. It is not an issue to be treated as one among many – not a special interest of some.

2. It is not a call to a type of blind biblical literalism.3. It does not focus on writing or publications nor is it

only for academics and biblical scholars.

What this project is not:



4. It is not only for Christians or church people.5. It is not “owned” by only the WEA and is not to be

engaged in alone.6. It does not look the same in every part of the world.

What this project is not:



1. It is foundational to who we are as WEA.2. It is for the up-building & strengthening of regional

and national alliances – what if we are truly known as a people of the Word?!

3. It is a forum, a platform for collaboration with other organizations (Bible societies, preaching groups, advocacy and mission agencies, churches, etc.)

What this project is:



4. It is evangelistic in the full sense of the word – to show the breadth and depth of God’s grace given freely for all. We show this through our words, our deeds, our character as individuals and as a people.




5. It is a global movement that creates the basis for a new reformation of the 21st century.

6. It is one possible way the Evangelical community can contribute to the Reformation Jubilee (2017).




7. It is a foundational Evangelical conviction that will serve to strengthen the WEA’s identity as a

unifying movement and a platform for collaboration.




Bottom up:begin a grassroots strategy process facilitated by the regional and national alliances.

How do we do it:



Top down:Consulting with global players who are engaged with Bible issues and finding how we can collaborate and work to support/facilitate the grassroots movements.

How do we do it:


Timeline1. Strategy process kick-off at the WEA ILF 2015

2. Present and reflect on the project at the Forum of Bible Agencies: April 2015

3. Invite global players to a kick-off consultation: late 2015


Timeline4. Mobilize wider public participation in REAs’ and

NEAs’ meetings and conferences: 2015-2017

5. Possible global kick-off “Decade of the Bible” during Reformation Anniversary 2017; maybe at a WEA-General Assembly?
