PURPOSE The CRI Council was established, to change the way building resources are viewed and dealt with. Starting with construction, renovation and demolition waste was a natural first step, as those residuals are theoretically largely preventable and highly recoverable or recyclable. But changing mindsets, consumption and production patterns around resource use in such a large and important industry will need far more than recovering and recycling materials, or even responsibility or declaration type policies. Simply put, any change in our built environment requires constructive communities – of place, interest and practice. Thus the purpose and goal of the CRI Council is helping transform communities to be the most constructive they can be to overcome inertia. The purpose of the integration retreat is to engage in deep constructive conversation about transforming communities and start the planning of an important protocol on integration. Because to minimize all forms of waste while delivering greater assured results for sustainable whole life cycle outcomes, the imperatives need to be clear.
