From the Principal’s Desk
Greetings to all!
Dear Students,
The academic year 2020-2021 was a year full of challenges and uncertainties. Homes have become
classrooms and formal learning that takes place in schools in the form of face-to-face interaction between
teachers and students has been replaced by the use of various technological devices.
These are challenging times, but I know that you are all strong enough to face it. Keep an open mind and stay
positive.
The present situation is an opportunity to focus on those aspects of learning such as values, feelings, and
personal social qualities which at times are un-emphasized.
Use this time to learn, reflect, create, appreciate those around you and be grateful for all of the blessings we
share.
You are so very important to us and we want you to gain as much from this situation as possible.
Your teachers and parents are extending emotional support to you for an effective teaching-learning process.
You need to learn the skill of self-assessment and be a reflective learner.

INTERNATIONAL INDIAN SCHOOL, DAMMAM
The International Indian School Dammam (IIS), formerly Indian Embassy School, Dammam, was
founded on 13th October 1982. The school is a non-profit institution operated exclusively to provide
quality education to Indian children living in the Eastern Province of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The
school offers educational facilities at Pre-primary, Primary, Secondary and Higher Secondary levels.
AFFILIATION & LICENSE
The school is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Shiksha Kendra, 2.
Community Center, Preet Vihar, Delhi. It is licensed by the Ministry of Education, Kingdom of Saudi
Arabia.
MANAGING COMMITTEE
IIS is governed by a Managing Committee elected by parents. The Ambassador of India is the Patron
of the School. The Managing Committee lays down broad policies and guidelines of the school leaving
the Principal and the Staff to conduct the day to day affairs of the school.

Uniform System of Assessment & Examination For classes VI-X from Academic Year 2019-20 onwards
As you are aware, the CBSE has issued Circular No. Acad-05/2017 dated 31.01.2017 on the restoration of
Board Examination for class X and revised assessment structure and examination for class X from Academic
Year 2017-18 onwards.
This new scheme will bring the uniformity in the system of assessment and examination for classes VI – X
in all the CBSE affiliated schools.
To increase the confidence in the students to start preparing for class X Board examination when they join the
upper primary stage in class VI, the CBSE has decided to implement the uniform system of assessment,
examination pattern and issue of report cards for classes VI to VIII also on the similar pattern. While keeping
in view the provisions of Right to Education Act, 2009, the scheme for classes VI-VIII has been designed on
Term Assessment basis with gradual increase in the learning assessment as the students move forward. This
would prepare the students to cover the whole syllabus of the academic year and face the challenge of class X
Board examination, and would thus, ensure the ‘quality of education’.
As the CBSE affiliated schools are required to follow the NCERT syllabus in the upper primary stage,
uniformity in the assessment structure, examination and issue of report cards across all the affiliated schools
is felt necessary from class VI to VIII. The detail components of the scheme are mentioned below for easy
understanding and implementation.

Ways to help your children…
1. Keep your child healthy. Seeing, hearing and feeling well are essential to learning.
2. Talk and listen to your children. The more words a child can understand and say, the easier it will be for
him or her to learn to read and understand. Your children will learn to express themselves if they know
you will give them your attention.
3. Praise and encourage your children. Praise and recognition reinforce learning. Praise them when they
succeed and help them when they have problems.
4. Be patient with your children.
5. Avoid comparing your children. Each child is unique. Do not harp on previous failures or results.
6. Schedule home study on a regular basis. To succeed in school many children, need a regular study time
each day free from interruptions and distractions.
7. Set a bedtime and stick to it. Your children will be in a proper frame of mind to learn only if they report
to school each morning well-rested.
8. See that your children’s school attendance is excellent. When children miss school, they miss the
presentation of new information or the mastery of a new concept.
9. Make family mealtimes meaningful. Mealtime can provide the ideal setting for talking together, sharing
events of the day and discussing individual problems and aspirations. Such discussions will help develop
your children’s self confidence and encourage them to speak up in the classroom.
10. Make television your servant, not your master. Children learn a lot from television - good and bad. Help
them choose appropriate programs to watch. Then watch with them and, afterwards, discuss what you’ve
seen.
11. Every child has limitations to their abilities. Accept their limitations and help them to set goals to increase
their self-esteem.
12. Provide a wide variety of reading materials in your home. If you have books, magazines and newspapers
readily available and in use, your children will see that reading is source of pleasure and information.
13. Give your children books as birthday or holiday gifts.
14. Help the child to develop self – discipline, self-direction, self-confidence and a sense of accomplishment
and maintaining his/her confidence especially when he/she seems discouraged by grades. Do not displace
your anxiety on the child.
15. Provide areas of responsibility: Determine responsibilities for your child according to the emotional and
chronological age. Start with a simple chore and add responsibility as your child shows ability to complete
a chore unattended.
16. Create structure and discipline. Without proper discipline, your children will feel out of control. Keep it
consistent and let your children know ahead of time what the consequences are for their actions.
17. Catch your child being good. A simple word or touch to let your children know you appreciate how good
they are being will increase their desire to be good.

“TAP THE GENIUS IN YOUR CHILD” Education and character building begins at home because 1st school for a child is mothers lap and Parents
are the first and best teachers and the best counselors for a child. Moreover, for a child to succeed, he needs
a teacher at home and a Mother at school.
Be a good role model: They look up to you, so you should be worth copying. If you watch serials or busy
with your social media in your free time you cannot stop your child playing games or watching videos when
he is free at home. He has to watch you do productive activities during your free time for him to model the
same. They learn confidence from the father, so the fathers should have a friendly connection with the child
and share his teenage experiences and the way he handled challenges at that time.
Be transparent: Maintain transparency between you and your child. Involve him in your family decisions
and bring out the adult in your child. So that he will feel worthy and have a strong sense of belonging.
Moreover, he will understand his responsibility towards his family and the society.
Accept Unconditionally: The child will not trust anyone rather than the parents and value only your
decisions…How you value them, their school, their teachers, their peers imprints deeply in their delicate
mind. Avoid excessive criticism, humiliating comments, or mocking your child like he is lazy, dumb or
stupid. When you say this every day, he tends to believe in these words and feel ashamed of himself. He may
feel worthless and might end up feeling unloved and as a result he might start to look for love elsewhere.
This kind of shame might force the child to become socially withdrawn, to fear expressing his emotions and
to fear taking risks. Later on the child might fail to study or concentrate just because his subconscious mind
wants to prove that he is a loser in order to fulfill the prophecy. Unconditional love for not what they
achieve but for what they are and unconditional acceptance of their capacity is very important.
Handle Proactively: Scared children do Scary things. When they lie, remember there is a threat for truth
from your side. Punishment brings rebellion and resentment and would reinforce the child more into lying
so, address their fear of telling the truth and teach them to execute right strategies. Think what you want to
grow…Honesty, trustworthiness, problem solving. When they Steal, analyze if there is any unsatisfied needs
in your child’s context not according to yours or its mere attention seeking due to low self-esteem .Children
learn through mistakes. When they make a mistake…Don’t tell show them how to do correctly. Choose to
respond not to react.
Discipline with Love: Be kind and firm. When you discipline your child check your intention, whether you
are speaking from love in order to correct your child or from anger in order to vent out your frustration.
When you speak from anger your tone escalates, you yell, spank etc. but when you speak from love you are
calm and composed which in turn makes your child listen to you.
Be Connected Emotionally: The first 5 minutes and last 5 minutes of a day is very important. When they
wake up in the morning their mind is fresh so speak empowering loving words. Stop the screen time 1hr
before the sleep and have fun filled discussions before they go to bed.
Organize and structure: Parental involvement = Student success. They need to be structured and well
organized at home for them to excel in academics. When you implement a strategy like packing the books
the previous night, don’t tell them but train them systematically and consistently for 20 -30 days then it
becomes a habit.
Create interest in studies: Set a definite study time so that even if they do not have anything to study they
should spend their study time in knowledge building activities. Don’t force them for studies as the pressure

you exert on them will create an aversion not towards you but towards studies. Explain them that as we feed
our stomach they have to study to feed the brain.. Lower your expectations and help them to explore their
potential. Focus on progress not perfection.
Parent – Teacher partnership: Whatever may be your parenting style, no doubt you have the best intentions
for the child and remember the same applies to your child’s teacher. You and the teachers are partners in
bringing out the best in your child. Maintain a good rapport with their teachers and speak with respect
especially when your child has an issue with the teacher. When you ask the teacher “tell me what can I do to
help you help my child” then you will get a different kind of respect and your child would have learnt a
valuable lesson on holding accountability towards self.
Handle school issues judiciously: When they have issues with their peers or their teachers, train them to be
tangible enough to fit into the environment or the situation. That gives them control over the situation and
eventually makes them confident.
Beware of their Exposures: Kids are extraordinarily smart and we are not able to engage their smart brains
in productive activities. So, they fall prey to the internet and they are prematurely overloaded with
information’s. Trust your child but not their age. Check their internet viewing and be open for discussion.
Whatever may be your concern you can control it….but the key factor is to be connected with the child
emotionally.
Be ready for the ‘BIG’ talk: Sexual curiosities and infatuations are part of their growth. Be ready to give the
big talk .If you don’t explain they will seek help from their friends. Explain scientifically according to their
age but before that probe and find out the level of understanding as well.
Limit screen time: Allow time for more active learning experiences into which they are interested, it may be
even helping you in kitchen.
Encourage their talents: Only a happy child can achieve in their academics. A child will find happiness only
when their areas of interest or their hobbies are appreciated and valued. Look for creative talents and
encourage them. Especially children who have difficulty in studies should be allowed to pursue their interest
in daily basis which in turn would escalate their self-esteem and they would improve in their academics
miraculously. When they gain success in a field they are interested in, that develops a faculty in their brain
and influences other areas towards success.
If you want to be the most influential person in your kids life then be a part of your child’s all areas of life
even if it is playing video games .When they feel that you have come down to their world they tend to oblige
you. Everyone is a good parent but you become a best parent when your child approaches you when he
commits a mistake or you are the first one to know his problems.
