Dear Friends
Greetings from the holy city of Varanasi
It gives us immense pleasure to invite you to the “International Conference and Certificate th ndCourse on Hospital Management, to be held from 17 to 22 December, 2013 in Varanasi. Varanasi, (also
known as Kashi) is the abode of Lord Shiva and one of the oldest living cities in the world. It is located on the left bank of River Ganges between rivers Varuna and Assi. The 84 ghats of river Ganges form the symbolic semi-lunar chain of the city.
The major attractions of the place are Ganga Arti, Dev Deepawali, Ganga Mahotsava and the ancient temples like Kashi Vishwanath temple, Durga temple, Tulsi Manas Mandir and Kal Bhairav. Varanasi is renowned for Indian classical & folk music, Banarasi Silk Saris, arts & crafts.
Varanasi is the microcosm of Hinduism and the city of traditional classical Indian culture. Its rich religious & spiritual heritage draws visitors in search of salvation. It is also the pilgrimage site for both Buddhists & Jains. Sarnath, situated 10km northeast from Varanasi is the place where Lord Buddha gave his first sermon in 500BC. It is the birthplace of four Jain Thirthankars, viz Suparshaym, Chandraprabhu, Shreyas & Parshvanath.
Varanasi has been the centre of learning of Indian Philosophy, Spiritualism and Mysticism since ancient times. The city's five universities - Banaras Hindu University, Sampurnanand Sanskrit Vishwa Vidyalaya, Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth, Central Tibetan University and Jamia Islamia Muslim University – impart knowledge to students from all over the world.
Banares Hindu University, established in 1916 by 'Mahamana' Madan Mohan Malviya, is the largest residential university in Asia. It has three institutes viz. Institute of Medical Sciences, Institute of Agricultural Sciences and Institute of Environment and Sustainable Development.
Institute of Medical Sciences is the first of its kind in the country bringing together Faculty of Medicine, Dental Sciences and Ayurveda under one umbrella, a real amalgamation of ancient wisdom and modern scientific temper of medical sciences. Sir Sunderlal Hospital is a teaching and training hospital imparting training to the students of IMS. With 1200 beds, it is the only tertiary care referral centre for entire eastern UP, Western Bihar, Chattisgarh, Jharkhand, MP and neighbouring country of Nepal, catering to the medical needs of about 20 crore population. There are 44 clinics and OPDs, 51 indoor-wards with 987 beds in Modern Medicine and 186 beds in Indian Medicine. Besides above some special clinics are also run to meet out patients need.
Management of such a big hospital needs a well planned Hospital management system and with this seed-opinion, the Institute of Medical Sciences, BHU and Indian Hospital Association are jointly organizing a conference entitled “International Conference and Certificate Course on Hospital
th ndManagement” from 17 to 22 December, 2013.
In view of changing socio-economic complexities of the society, demographical changes of the disease pattern, the extra burden of the life-style diseases, rising Hospitalization costs, rapid advancements in technology and high expectations of consumers of hospital services – management and leadership of hospital has become a very challenging job in the real term of professionalism.
To meet these enormous challenges the leaders/managers of the hospitals have to deal with issues of varying complexity; hence the need for change in the leadership style of the public and private sector hospitals.
This international conference will focus on the issues of Management and Leadership in the current scenario of collaboration, the containment of the costs, maximization of resources, outsourcing of the services and stringent quality assurance program. Other areas of discussion include Disposal of hospital waste, Staffing needs of the hospital managers, professional satisfaction of doctors working in super speciality hospitals and last but not the least, the role of Hospital in primary health care so that millennium goal of the health propounded by the UNO is achieved globally with Time.
We have planned to provide a flavour of the eclectic “Banarasi Pan” by means of didactic lecture, panel discussions and paper presentations. We hope to facilitate good interaction and provide an opportunity to discuss and understand the problems of the hospital management and come up with solutions for the same.
