The hotel being located, on the edge of the Saône, next to the Saint Laurent bridge, dating from the year 1000, in the heart of the city of Macon, where we can admire its magnificent monuments, its wooden houses, its “Hôtel de Dieu” (apothecary shop) and visit the museum of Lamartine.

Friday 4 of September

9h: Departure by bus to CLUNY and La Roche de Solutré.

This city is known today by its ENSAM (gadzar engineers), its national stud farms, but we know that it was the LIGHT OF THE WORLD by the order of the Cluniacs.

Founded in 1000, this abbey counted up to 460 monks, then experienced decadence and its destruction in 1790. It was as vast as St Peter of Rome!

12h: Lunch at Cluny

14H: Départure for La roche de Solutré.

Prehistoric place for sure, but which was the place of “pilgrimage” of a former President of the French Republic, imitated by many others today.

An aeronautical benchmark for many!

17h: Return by coach to Mâcon

20h: Dinner by own choice in town

Saturday 5 of September

9h: Visit of Château de Brancion

This fortress is a Mecca for the Mâconnais and the very rich history of the Dukes of Burgundy.

Several times besieged, ruined, restored, it is perched on a ridge from where we discover breathtaking views of the surrounding valleys.

11h: Visit of Lugny Cellars with wine tasting.

The cooperative cellar of Lugny is the first in Burgundy by its importance and the 6th on national level.Most of the famous Chardonnay white wine is produced there, including the “charmes”, the flagship of the appellation.

12h: Lunch at Lugny

14h: Departure for Tournus, visit of St Philibert Abbey

This city remains by its Romanesque architectural beauty, one of the most beautiful witnesses of the monastic centers of France

16h30: Return to Mâcon

17h30: AGM (Annual General Meeting) for the French IFFR section

20h: Gala Dinner at Maison des vins de Mâcon
