Keynote Speakers
Umberto Cugini Politecnico di Milano
ITALY
Topic: From CAD to Virtual Prototyping: The Evolution of the Approach to Product Development
Abstract: Computer Aided Design tools for Mechanical Engineering have been available for over 50 years now. Their history started with simple 2D drafting tools. Today, we are in the era of Virtual Prototyping and Functional Mock Up. There has been an evolution from geometry, which represents statically the shape of machines and components, to functional models, which describe and drive the simulation of the system physical behaviour in real‐time within interactive environments. In the Product Development Process the evolutions of enabling tools went in the opposite direction: from modeling the documents that synthesize the results of the design process back to the initial problem setting, at an increasingly abstract level. The presentation will go through this evolution pointing out the lessons learned, and provide hints to forecast next steps.
Giovanni Ceccarelli Ceccarelli Yacht Design and Engineering
ITALY
Topic: Yacht Design and Engineering
Abstract: Ceccarelli Yacht Design and Engineering is one of the most famous Italian yacht design firms. The company was founded by Epaminonda Ceccarelli, and has now been passed to his son Giovanni.

Jan Larsson Siemens Industry Software Limited
UNITED KINGDOM
Topic: Embedding of Design and Engineering Intent within CAx Models and Assemblies
Abstract: Jan Larsson is the Senior Marketing Director EMEA for Siemens PLM Software’s Product Engineering solutions. His presentation will cover the need for a clear strategy when it comes to product and process re‐use and the value of embedding knowledge into the product engineering process to help innovation while maintaining standards, shorten lead time, and ensure manufacturability.
Masaharu Tosu iCAD Ltd. JAPAN
Topic: Ultra Fast 3D CAD System for Machine Design
Abstract: Mr. Masaharu Tosu is the General Manager, Research & Development Division, iCAD Ltd. His speaking topic is "Ultra Fast 3D CAD System for Machine Design”. Production facilities and machine tools consist of numerous parts, of the order of several thousands. The geometries of such partes are generally represented by analytic curved surfaces. On the basis of these features, iCAD has developed a 3D CAD system using Constructive Solid Geometry (CSG) that can display one million parts in 0.2 seconds. he will discuss the superiority of CSG over Boundary‐Representation (B‐Rep), and describe the technology underlying iCAD. Using a notebook PC, a demonstration of how iCAD performs at high speeds with massive datasets will be given.

Workshop
Emotional Engineering
Emotional Engineering is a challenging and fascinating research topic attracting many researchers from
various disciplines, including Engineering, Design, Neuroscience, Perception and Cognition, etc. The
primary purpose of the EE SIG workshop is to gather a community of researchers and practitioners from
different disciplines and sectors interested in exchanging and discussing ideas and issues about the
emerging role of emotions in the engineering disciplines in order to share a roadmap for further
researches and investigations in this new interdisciplinary field. Participant presentations and ideas will be
published and shared with the broader community through the EE‐SIG web page.
Invited speakers
Shuichi Fukuda, EE‐SIG Chair(Stanford University and ASME‐CIE)
Monica Bordegoni, EE‐SIG Co‐chair (Politecnico di Milano)
Marco Maiocchi (Politecnico di Milano)

Gala Dinner, Wednesday, June 19, 2013 (separate purchase and reservation)
The CAD’13 Gala Dinner will be held at Villa Baiana (http://www.villabaiana.it) in Moticelli Brusati. Villa Baiana, laid out on three floors, is placed in a wonderful location. It has large halls and terraces with a panoramic view, and is surrounded by a park with ancient trees, among them a very valuable cedar of Lebanon, dated 1784, and a knotty tamarisk dated 1820.
La Montina, a Franciacorta wine producer (http://www.lamontina.it) is also located at this site. The La Montina estate consists of approximately 72 hectares of vineyard spread across 7 different communes of the Franciacorta region. The vineyards lie across low hillsides with soils consisting of calcareous clay and silt. The event includes a visit to the wine cellar and wine tasting.
PROGRAM h. 17.30: Leave the Conference Location by bus
h. 18.30: Visit to the wine cellar The event will start with a guided tour to the wine cellar during which it will be described the Franciacorta complex journey from vineyard to bottle, how much hard work goes into the production of each delicate glassful, about the 70 times that each bottle is carefully handled during its 3 year development in the cellar.
h. 19.30: Aperitif with small appetizers and local products
h. 20.15: Dinner with wine tasting
h. 22.30: Leave Villa Baiana by bus

AN ANNUAL, INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE
CONNECTING PEOPLE IN CAD/CAM/CAE
RESEARCH, EDUCATION AND BUSINESS
11th Annual CAD Conference June 23‐26, 2014 – Hong Kong, China
It is a pleasure to announce that the 11th annual International CAD Conference and Exhibition will be held at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, China, June 23‐26, 2014.
Opened in 1991, The campus occupies a beautifully landscaped 150 acre site on Clear Water Bay peninsula in East Kowloon, less than 30 minutes from Central Hong Kong. It is easily reached by taxi from the Hong Kong International Airport (HKG).
Hong Kong is a First Class Asia World City, with many, many towering skyscrapers, a Ladies’ Market, Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade, Temple Street Night Market, The Big Buddha and Po Lin Monastery, and beautiful views from Victoria Harbour. There are many festivals, and wonderful food. Just beyond is the Pearl River Delta, and of course mainland China.
Contributions from all aspects of CAD are expected including Modeling, Analysis, High‐Performance Graphics, Data Management, Knowledge Engineering, Collaborative Design, Reverse Engineering, and Prototyping. Applications can be in Architecture, Bio‐ Medicine, Civil Engineering, Fashion Industry, Industrial Design, Sustainable Energy Design, etc.
