2018-19 has been another successful year of continuous improvement and progress for the Ottawa Chapter. In operation for 52 years with almost 1,300 members, we are one of the largest chapters in North America. We serve a fantastic and diverse membership base, spanning across a number of industries, with the coreindustry being federal government. This annual report summarizes our accomplishments over the past year, during which we have made manysignificant contributions in our local community. Our group of leaders have worked hard to support theevolution of quality services to our members and we have been able to achieve the following:- Strengthened ties with our community: We hosted high-quality networking events including the holidayparty and the Annual General Meeting (AGM). Each of which have reached capacity, demonstrating therelevance to the community.- Celebrated achievements of Internal Audit functions: We introduced the IIA Ottawa ChapterExcellence Awards, to be provided at the AGM. The selection committee was impressed by the number andquality of the applications received for this award. As a result, we are looking into designing a program in thenext year to showcase these activities across the community.- Strengthened communication with our members: We developed and executed on a strategy to rebuildand restructure our social media accounts, chapter newsletter, and chapter communications.- Promoted the Internal Audit profession to students: In conjunction with the Office of the ControllerGeneral, we designed and hosted a networking event between students and internal audit leaders.- Supported members in obtaining their CIA designation: We introduced and offered CIA Part 1, Part 2, andPart 3 training courses for the community. We are happy to see the commitment of members in obtainingtheir CIA designation.- Continued to support development of our internal audit community through innovative programofferings: Over the year we provided courses focused on emerging issues such as How to Build an InnovativeCulture, Program Transformation, UK delegation on Fraud, and Event on Blockchain Technologies. Duringthese events, we brought local and global leaders to discuss topics of relevance to the community. In somecases, these events were hosted in conjunction with strategic partners including the Office of the ControllerGeneral and Institute of Corporate Directors Ottawa Chapter. Going forward, our training program willcontinue to evolve to focus on innovation and soft skills, essential for the audit leader of tomorrow.- Operated in a financially sustainable manner: We have been working on restructuring our financialmodel. Beginning this year, IIA courses are being offered by IIA Canada as opposed to the Chapter, whichimpacted our Chapter’s funding model. While we work on transitioning and restructuring our programmingmodel to accommodate this change; the Board of Governors made a decision to draw down on reserves tosupport a consistent level of service for our members.- Leveraged sponsorship contributions: We are continuing to implement a sponsorship program for events. We offering sponsorship opportunities for organizations from the provision of space for events to thecontribution of funds. We have been able to achieve as much as we have because of the strength of our Board of Governors, as wellas the strong support from the internal audit community. I want to personally thank you for supporting ourChapter. We could not do this without you and at the end of the day, our success is because of your support. I look forward to continuing to lead this chapter into the upcoming year and overseeing a program ofcontinuous improvement and progress. Sincerely, Clarissa Crane, CPA, CA, CIA, CRMA

In 2018, the IIA modified its training delivery model. This model reduces the revenue the Chapter receives from delivering IIA courses. The Board made a conscious decision to maintain services to Members while working through alternative training program options to addressthe gaps in the funding from this new model. As a result, total revenues fell 51% year over year whiletotal expenses were reduced by 37%. Programsrevenues including training and lunch and learns fell54% over the prior year while the expenses fell 35%. Weare therefore projecting a net deficit of $33K for fiscal2019 which aligns to the budget. This compares to anet deficit of $11.7K for fiscal 2018. We are funding ourdeficits through our reserve of cash at hand. The CIA Parts 1, 2 & 3 training courses have provenpopular and may help stabilize revenues goingforward. The Chapter is also hosting the 2021 TheInstitute of Internal Auditors National Conferencewhich should continue to contribute to our reserve.
