INTRODUCTIONo IPT is a sub set of public transport deals

with low technology vehicles that occupy less space and are provided for short distance travel.

o IPT modes of transportation provide transport facility to low income groups.

TYPES OF IPT MODES IN INDIA

Various types of IPT vehicles are found in many Indian cities. These are: Three-wheeler auto-rickshaw. Motor-cycle rickshaw. Cycle rickshaw. Tonga. Six-seater auto-rickshaw. Trekker. Matador Van.

ADVANTAGES OF IPD MODES

Low fuel consumption as compare to passenger car.

Greater maneuverability in congested streets.

Point to point service capacity. Lower cost as compare to other modes. Provision of job opportunities to weaker

sections of society.

DISADVANTAGES OF IPD MODES

Some of them are not fully safe. Some of them are not unstable during

turning around sharp concerns. Some of them are extremely noisy and

pollute the air.
