TRANSCRIPT

The risks associated with the use of tower cranes on jobsites - collisions between cranes,

collision with high voltage electricity lines ect… - may have serious consequences

As a solution to these problems, SMIE has developped the technology for anticollision and

zoning systems for all jobsite situations.

AC246 – Anticollision in motion

The AC246, the latest generation of zoning anticollision systems developped by SMIE,

category 2 according to the norm EN954-1, is the fruit of an unequalled experience of more

than 20 years acquired through thousands of installations throughout the world. These sys-

tems meet the high requirements of the European norm EN14439.

Zoning________________________________________

This function prevents the over-sailing of critical zones and of

static obstacles (high voltage lines, railway lines, public pla-

ces, schools, etc…)

The crane can therefore work in proximity of the zone or fol-

low its boundary in complete safety.

• Can define up to 15 zones

• Definition of zones with lines, circles, arcs or point by

point

• Hook height management by thresholds possible

Anticollision___________________________________

In this case, the obstacle to avoid is another crane (hoist cable,

jib, counter-jib, mast). The obstacle is no longer static but dy-

namic. The AC246 system allows cranes to track each other

automatically at an optimum speed and distance in complete

safety, therefore increasing the productivity of the site.

The AC246 system :

• Measures the position and speed of the load—slewing and

trolley positions.

• Calculates, in real time, the risk of collision with respect to

the breaking capacity of the crane.

• Informs the operator if a collision risk is identified.

• Implements a braking procedure as soon as a collision risk

is identified.

For an anticollision solution, each crane must be equipped

with an AC246 system.

Inter-crane Communication__________________________________________

In terms of communication, AC246 systems offer you the choice of cabled connection (up to 30

cranes on one network) or wireless connection (up to 21 cranes per RAC3 network). For more than

21 cranes, several radio networks can be set up on the same site for inter-crane interference manage-

ment.

Wireless Communication

The RAC radios are specially designed to suit the requirements of inter-crane interference manage-

ment.

Developed around an industrial module, the Rac radio offers an excellent level of frequency stability

for safer communication. Selection by software of up to 160 channels considerably reduces the pro-

blems of interference especially in dense urban areas.

Options

SGC240 — graphical supervising

and recording device

Graphical supervising device for

anticollision operations, the

SGC240 allows the remote moni-

toring of complex jobsites :

• The supervising function offers a

graphical visualisation, in real

time, of the overall operation of

the anticollision systems onsite.

• The SGC240 records informa-

tion relative to anticollision sys-

tems.

• The cartography function im-

proves cranes work and jobsite

organisation thanks to the dis-

play of high activity zones. It

becomes possible to prevent

traffic jams risks, to better or-

ganise teams work or also to

reposition the material storage

areas on the construction site

• The data recorded by the

SGC240 can be consulted remo-

tely by internet and downloaded.

And all makes of cranes:

Comansa, Comedil, Jaso, Kroll, Liebherr, Peiner, Potain, Raimondi, Wolff…

Positive Safety and fault management________________________________________________________________________

This system is capable of identifying a large number of faults in its own operation: internal functions, sensor validity, external

inter-crane communication faults, identification of overrides, free slewing, etc…

When such a situation is identified, all systems involved take the required measures to prevent any dangereous movements

whilst maintaining the maximum freedom of movement.

Partnerships with crane manufacturers______________________________________________________________________

Recognised for their experience and their know-how, SMIE works together with crane manufacturers to develop new systems and

specific anticollision interfaces.

TRAVELLING SENSOR

Provides the information of

the crane position when

travelling on rails.

JUNCTION BOX WITH

2 KEYS

Enables to override the zoning function

of a crane whilst maintaining the anticol-

lision management with other cranes..

UNIVERSAL SLEWING SENSOR

Provides jib/counter jib slewing angle information.

The redesign of the slewing sensor has optimized its

number of parts and, as a result, simplified installation.

This insures a direct and reliable connection between

the slewing sensor of the crane and the encoder. No

more gears, the ratio can be programmed directly on

the central unit.

EXTERNAL SIGNAL LIGHT

Indicates to the site staff if there is a

fault with the anticollision system or if

it has been disabled (overrides, internal

faults etc..).

OPERATOR DISPLAY WITH TEST BUT-

TON

Provides information to the driver on current

state of system free or inhibited movements,

overrides, defects, trolley and slewing position

ect.... One pressure and the panel display to the

driver the checking procedure step by step. A

crane driver sheet is supplied with each AC246

to describe the check points.

CENTRAL UNIT

Central control unit calculates the crane posi-

tion and evaluates the risk of collision with

respect to other interfering cranes on site.

Includes a specific sotware with the system

autotest

MACHINE INTERFACE AND

OVERRIDE DEVICE

The electromechanical machine

interface connects the central unit to

the crane control cabinet. It controls

the different movements of every

type of crane.

WIRELESS COMMUNICATION

Wireless transmission module which

allows the exchange of information

between the cranes.

TROLLEY SENSOR

Provides information on the

trolley position on the jib.

A universal system_______________________________________________________________________

The AC246 system can be adapted on all types of cranes with only minor modifications:

Saddle jib cranes, luffing jib cranes, fixed cranes, travelling cranes, PLC controlled cranes, relay controlled cranes...
