BEST SUNDAY

The below article was written over Twenty-five years ago by a grateful alcoholic. “THIS IS HOW IT WORKS”!! Thought we would share would you.Gratefully written by Ralph C.

For me Sunday is the best day of the week. When I wake-up, I have no fears or pain. I am able to enjoy the sun, the sky and the things people take for granted, like reading the newspaper and remembering what I read, sitting with my family, talking or joking about yesterday and planning for tomorrow and keeping those plans. There was a time in my life when every day was a nightmare, but Sunday’s were the worst. No matter how hard I tried to hide or save enough Alcohol to get through another Sunday, I couldn’t. You see Sunday is a nightmare for most alcoholics because liquor stores are closed, and most alcoholics do not have the kind of money you need to drink in a bar. So I would try and buy and save enough liquor to last all day long, but it never worked out that way. I would drink it all before sunrise. I would be unbearable all day long fighting with my family be-cause my body would start to have withdrawal symptoms. I did this day after day, week after week, year after year, until one day I was sick and tired of being sick and tired. Four years ago I put down the drink with the help of ALCOHOLS ANONYMOUS. So you see every day of the week is a great day, but Sunday is always going to be my best day of the week.

ROSE ANN’S LETTER

The letter below was written by Ralph C’s daughter on 10/24/90 when she was 8 years old. She couldn’t find a card so she made one. Thought this was very inspirational for those wanting to become sober! Certainly a good reason to. Thanks. Hope you enjoy reading this.

To Daddy,I’m very proud of you. I am so glad that you took that first step in admitting to yourself that you have a problem. That was probably one of the hardest things you had to do. I am very happy you have changed so much and I thank you God, and AA for that. Some kids would probably be embarrassed and ashamed of having a father that goes to AA. Well I’m not. I’m proud of you, and I would never be ashamed of you. I’m glad you’re putting the pieces back to your life and bringing this family close again. Keep going to AA and I’ll always be proud because you’re not just my father you’re my friend, and I love you Daddy.Love, Rose Ann

We Welcome Your Stories Come, share with us your experience, strength and hope as you would in a meeting, only this time share it in print. You don’t have be to a great writer. You may even cringe at the thought of getting all the spelling right. No fear and no excuse for that. We’re here, if needed, to help with the spelling, punctuation, and grammar. If you’re not sure just how to word some-thing, we can help you with that, too.

Think of writing for the Intergrouper as a form of service work. Your story may say just what someone needs to not pick up that next drink. Or, what you say may inspire someone to have hope in what had seemed like a hopeless situation. You can help without leaving your chair … by contributing your story to the Intergrouper.

Send your story to [email protected] by the 10th of the month prior to publication. Length should be a minimum of 300 words and a maximum of 550 words.

Three Legacies of AAAA’s Twelve Steps are principles for personal recovery. The Twelve Traditions ensure the unity of the Fellowship. The Twelve Concepts for World Service provide a group of related principles to help ensure that various elements of A.A’s service structure remain respon-sive and responsible to those they serve. Step One: “We admitted we were powerless over alcohol that our lives had become unman-ageable.” Tradition One: “Our common welfare should come first; personal recovery depends upon A.A. unity.” Concept One: “The final responsibility and the ultimate authority for A.A. World services should always reside in the collective conscience of our whole Fellowship.”
