Youth subcultures are a very interesting theme. We can understand why many teens are listening just to rock-music, why rock-groups are so popular. Our research work will tell interesting facts about this musical style.

British scientists conducted the research “The influence of music on IQ of people”. The lowest results in IQ-tests belong to the people who listen to hip-hop and R’n’B. Rappers, therefore, are more foolish between all others. The tests were classical and traditional for the school programs. Higher results belong to their contemporaries who prefer classical and symphonic music. Some results of the research were unexpected for scientists: “One of the facts surprised us . The people who love classical music and heavy metal are very much alike. They are creative personalities but they aren’t very sociable. The fans of hard rock are considered to be the persons in deep depression and with inclination to suicide. Our society believes that rockers are its dangerous elements. But in fact, they are harmless and useful for society. They are very delicate persons.”

AC/DC

The song “Big Gun” is performed in the film “Last action hero” with Arnold Schwarzenegger, playing the main role.

Jon Bon Jovi is the owner of the American football team “Philadelphia Soul”.

Jon Bon Jovi said he wanted to be buried to the song «In My Life» of «The Beatles».

Jon Bon Jovi founded a charity fund for struggle with poverty ( «Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation») and made donations in his native state New Jersey for the local inhabitants with low level of income.

Linkin Park

"Hybrid Theory" changed its name to “Linkin Park” in order to avoid a trial with the group "Hybrids".

The video "One Step Closer" was shot in a mine. Besides, money for this single was borrowed from fans.

Linkin Park is one of the most favoutite groups of Ilya Medvedev (Russian Prime Minister`s son). In one of the interviews, Dmitry Medvedev said that he liked to listen to Linkin Park too.

The songs of the group can be heard in different films.

The soloist of the group Chester Bennington played some episodic roles in the films «Adrenalin» and «Adrenalin 2».

Nightwish

The first album was recorded when the members of Nightwish were under 20.

The group has a lot of music clips, besides its music is soundtracks to cartoons.

The rehearsals of songs for their new album “Dark Passion Play“ took place in a summer camp in Finland. This album will include London’s philharmonic orchestra and a choir.

Nirvana

One day Kaitlin Hanna, the friend of Kurt Cobain, wrote on a wall of his house «Kurt smells like teen spirit». Kurt and Kaitlin often talked about punk-rock and anarchism, so the leader of Nirvana was inspired and composed one of the hits «Smells like teen spirit». Some months later Cobain found out that “Teen Spirit” is a teen’s deodorant. The popularity of the song made Teen Spirit one of the most popular deodorants.

Rammstein

A small planet was discovered in 2001 by Jean-Claude Merlin. He called it «Rammstein» because it was his favourite group.

In the song «Moskau» Victoria Fersh sang with Till Lindermann. She was the girl from Tallinn who lived in Germany.

Yulia Stepanova acted the part of Snow White in the clip «Sonne».

Group’s members are keen on plants, collecting butterflies, one of them was a wrestler in the past, others worked as a stoker in the library, a house-painter and a locksmith.

The Beatles

One day John Lennon said that The Beatles was more popular than Jesus Christ. The broadcasting station KLUE from Texas offered the public burning of records and other symbols of The Beatles. Soon the building of the broadcasting station was destroyed with a lightning.

No one in the group knew musical notation.

The members of the group were left-handed persons (Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr).

John Lennon’s aunt Mimi always said, “Guitar is a good instrument. However, it’s useless for earning money”. When John became a rich man, he bought a villa for his aunt with those words on its wall.

A guitar in the shape of a violin became the first professional instrument which Paul McCartney bought.

During the concerts in Hamburg the musicians had to use strings of the club’s pianos because they hadn`t enough money to buy new strings.

John Lennon stole a harmonica, which could be heard in the song «Love Me Do», in 1960 in the musical store in the town of Arnhem (Netherlands).

The Rolling Stones

Their song «Sympathy for the devil» was used in the computer game “Call of Duty: Black Ops”.

Playing the role of Jack the Sparrow in films “Pirates of the Caribbean Sea” (2003—2013), Johnny Depp tried to imitate Keith Richards’ walk and his manner of talking, who was one of his favourite musicians. In one of the films the musician played the part of Jack the Sparrow`s father Captain Tig.

The participation in the video for the song «Anybody Seen My Baby» in 1997 was the first role in Angelina Jolie`s actress career..

Nickelback

Before the group’s formation Chad Kruger’s elder brother Mike worked as a waiter in a cafe where a cup of coffee cost 2.95 or 3,95$. Usually the change was 5 cents, and using the slang, it was called “nickel" . Mike gave the change and said, “Here’s your nickel back”. So the group “Nickelback” appeared.

Chad Kruger said that he got the inspiration for his songs from watching six-hour news.

They have soundtracks to famous films.

30 Seconds to Mars

The group “30 Seconds to Mars” refused from the guards during the concerts. The guys wanted to show the unity of musicians and their fans.

The group had a difficult period, which was connected with a conflict with one of the biggest recording labels. It was the so called creative crisis, that’s why the guys organized unusual trips, for example, to a desert.

Some songs of “30 Seconds to Mars” are used successfully like soundtracks and world-famous games (Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit).

Skillet

«Skillet» means a mixture of different styles.

The songs “Come on to the future” and “Invincible” became soundtracks to the film “Extreme day”.

John started playing in the group when he was 14. His parents forbade him listening to unchristian music at home. When John was 15, he formed the group “Tribulation” with the help of his friends.

Later John began listening to music of Christian rock-groups “Barren Cross” “Guardian”, “Bon Jovi”, “Skid Row”, “Motley Crue”, etc. But for the first time in his life John bought an unchristian CD when he was 18.

Three Days Grace

Chris Conte invented a stand in the form of a biomechanic hand for Adam Gontier, the vocalist of Three Days Grace.

The group sang two compositions «Home» and «Are You Ready» in the film «Superstar» and the song “Pain” in “The Ghost Whisperer”.
