MX40 Repair Strategy

REPAIRSNote: The MX40 will not be repairable by a customer or third party –

the factory will not be selling internal parts for repairs • Assembly level repair of the MX40 IS NOT supported. The device

disassembly and reassembly process is much too complex, and requires expensive test and disassembly/assembly tools. This is why assembly level repair will not be supported.

• At release, the MX40 repair strategy is as follows:– Unit exchange through SPS: Available worldwide

Repair Strategy – At product release

MX40 Repair Strategy

• Post Release Plans:– “Bench Repair” – Factory repair through the LcSC repair bench:

• The factory will be offering a repair service through the PCCI Customer Services organization’s Lifecycle Support Center (LcSC) bench facilities in order to support a “bench repair” alternative. This process will be the same process used today for repairs of the 862439/862231 – IntelliVue Telemetry Transceivers and the M2601B – Telemetry Transmitters in the USA and Canada.

USA and Canada: We expect to have the MX40 added to the current process within the first year of shipments.

We will be investigating expansion of this service to other countries.

Repair Strategy – Post-release

MX40 Software Licensing

• What is “Software Licensing”?– By device, the factory will be tracking customer information,

software revisions and features enabled, in a new database called the “Software License Server”.

– At first release, this information will only reside in the SW License Server in the factory.

– In the future, the field’s “Installed Base” database and the SW License Server will be connected, and information in the two systems will be synchronized on a regular basis.

– Any changes made by the service person will be sent back to the SW License Server automatically via the IntelliVue Support Tool –Mark2.

– In this way, both the factory system and the IB will have faster access to information on what is currently installed.

MX40 Software Licensing

• What information gets tracked in the SW License Server?• New product shipments from the factory• Every IntelliVue Support Tool – Mark2 action that impacts the

following, is logged and tracked in the Software License Server by Support Tool user account:

– Software revision changes– Option/capability modifications– Software license transfer (applies to repairs)

• What are some of the benefits to doing software licensing?• It will be easier to know exactly what products/revision/features are

currently in operation at a customer site!• The IntelliVue Support Tool – Mark2 gets entitlement information from

the SW License Server. Therefore, biomeds will be able to reload software and features they purchased without needing to call an FSE.

MX40 Repairs – Software License Transfer

• New products shipped from the factory will have a software license

• Exchange devices– Exchange

devices will ship without a software license and therefore will not function clinically.

– The software license from the failed device is transferred to the exchange device using the IntelliVue Support Tool – Mark2.

MX40 IntelliVue Adapter Cable

Patient Cable Type Detection• MX40 to IntelliVue style leadset adapter cable

– This adapter cable allows a customer to use existing IntelliVue leadsets with the MX40. 3-wire or 5-wire leadsets can be used.

– The adapter cable has an EEPROM that communicatesits characteristics to the MX40. It reports that it is an adapter cable.

– With an adapter cable attached, the MX40 defaults to 5-wire operation, because it cannot determine what type of leadset is attached to the adapter (3-wire or 5-wire, AAMI or IEC colors). The colors that are usedcome from the MX40 configuration.

Possible Issues – Battery Life Complaints

• The following things will impact battery life, so understand how the customer is using the device before responding to questions:

– Use model and features• Battery type and manufacturer• SpO2 – Continuous SpO2 will reduce battery life by 40-65%

– Mode: Continuous, manual (how often are measurements taken?)– Type: Integrated or Cableless Measurement

• If the device is used with the display on all of the time, battery life will be reduced by 45-70%

• If both the Smart-hopping and Short Range Radio radios are continuously active, battery life will be reduced by 25-35% (“TeleMon” use model, used with CL measurements)

Possible Issues – Battery Life Complaints

• The following things will impact battery life, so know your customer’s use model before responding to questions (continued):

– Li-ion battery aging• Battery capacity for rechargeable Li-ion batteries degrades over time

and number of recharge cycles. Toward the end of its useful life, the battery capacity may be reduced by 25-30%. If this reduced battery life is unacceptable based on the clinical use model, Philips recommends replacing the rechargeable battery sooner.

Short Range Radio Use Models

• Telemetry Use Model – MX40 is coordinating SRR communication

– SRR channel selection is done by the MX40

– SRR channel is selected from the channels programmed in the IIC Config Wizard

• Note: The more channels that are set to selected in the IIC Config Wizard, the longer the cableless assignment process will take since the MX40 has to check more channels – we suggest 2-4 channels

– SRR channel may change if interference occurs

Assigned Devices:Reports how many Cableless Measurement devices are connected. It does not report the device name in this screen. To see assigned CL devices, select “Add/Remove” SmartKey, and then select “Remove”. The list of connected devices will be displayed.

SRR Channel: 25

Assigned Devices: 1

Conn. Status: SRR Sensor Search

Connection Status:“Reset”, “Setup”, “Check for Upgrade”: Short Range Radio internal radio startup procedure. This occurs at boot or after

the radio is restarted by selecting the “Add/Remove” SmartKey.Network Scan: MX40 is checking configured channels (from IIC config) for best channel

SRR Sensor Search: MX40 has selected channel to operate on, and is searching for cableless (CL) measurement devices wanting to connect. This continues even after a CL devicehas been assigned. It continuously looks for other devices that want to connect.

Link Quality:Does not apply when the MX40

is the SRR Coordinator. Link Quality is determined by the

sending device which has knowledge of number of retries required to send data and how

much data was lost.

MX40 Configuration – Reset to Defaults

• There are two ways to set the MX40 back to factory default values

– On the MX40 in “Config Mode”, in the “Config” menu• “Unit Defaults”: This will set the MX40 to factory default values, with

the exception of the “Equipment Label” and the “RF Access Code”.• This allows a clinical user to reset the clinical parameters without

impacting the network connectivity.

– On the MX40 in “Service Mode”, in the “Service” menu• “Factory Defaults”: This will set the MX40 to factory default values.

This will also reset the “Equipment Label” to “NEW_DEVICE” and the “RF Access Code” to 0.

SpO2 Upgrade Failure and Recovery

• If after performing a software upgrade/downgrade the MX40 displays a “SpO2 Equip Malf” inop, it indicates that the SpO2 software download failed.

• The service person can attempt to reload the SpO2 software using the following procedure:

– Go into “Service Mode”– Select “Recover SpO2” from the list

• If the “Recover SpO2” selection is grayed out, the software download is not the cause of the “SpO2 Equip Malf” inop. This points to a problem with the hardware, and the device will need to be replaced.

“Recover SpO2”
