Curing Monitoring Systems (CMS)

• CMS uses fiber optic sensors to monitor the cure temperature of CIPP liner

• Senses temperature over time along the entire length of the pipe

• Takes temperature in 30 second intervals every 6 inches of pipe

• Temperature readings are displayed in real-time in graphical format

• Onsite computer uses Viscom Liner software

CMS Benefits

• Accurate and timely sensor readings• Easy to install• No blind spots• Installed to design specifications• Provides liner supplier protection• Continuous readings along the pipeline helps ensure against

problem areas within the pipe• Problem areas within the pipe can be readily identified for focused

solution• Engineers and owners are able to watch the cure remotely with

computer and smart phone access• Reduction in fuel, equipment and labor costs.• Data automatically collected and stored for monitoring and

historical reporting

Conclusions

• CMS can verify cure of liner along the entire length.• Prevention of one failed liner can justify the initial

investment.• Increase field production.• Delivery full reporting to managing authorities, including

installer notes, graphs, and snapshots.• Engineers and owners are able to watch the cure

remotely with computer access and Smartphones.• Minimal installation costs.

Lessons Learned

• CMS shows potential to increase production on lateral CIPP projects. Verifying the cure cycle along the entire length of the liner allows the installer to know when it is safe to remove the bladder instead of over cooking to ensure a complete cure.

• Removing heat and pressure prematurely from a liner can cause a variety of problems that can result in significant cost to the contractor. Verifying the cure will reduce the number of failures due to uncured resin

• CMS technologies will work with all resin systems and curing methods.• Problem areas including bellies and active infiltration are apparent during

the cure and the software can alert you to a potential problem with your cure.

• Specifications for each resin system can be programed into the CMS and will alert the installers when temperature and time limits have been reached.

• Data files can be used as cure log and ad a new level of quality control to any CIPP project.
