1. Welcome Back!

• review Web-Site [how/when to access agendas, homework, all handouts, and grades]

• still in the Resources Unit: one project and at most an activity or two

• Vertebrate Evolution Unit [brief overview] *this unit begins after Sci. Fair boards are built

2. First Look: Science Fair Boards

• 4th period registers during class time (and any groups still outstanding from 6th period)

• view past science fair boards

• will try and have some used boards for sale/recycle

- move liver to see intestines

- nothing gets removed

- draw the contents of these two cavities as is

- bag the pigs intact for use on Monday

• students practice on a 2µl, 8µl, 14µl, 20µl grid [forward and reverse]

- 2 grids + 2 Micropipete/table [SAM solution]

• enrichment: add 2µl SAM to a 20µl drop of “clear” – just to see what happens

* “clear” = 20% Glycerin solution

1. Micropipet Practice Continued

• transfer technique: one micro-test tube to another including flushing

- starting with rxn tube with 14µl “clear”: add 2µl SAM, flush, add 4µl SAM, flush

- each student prepare a tube

2. Practice Gel Loading

• each student loads at least 2 wells from their practice rxn tube (loading volume = 15µl)

• run these 0.8% Agarose gels at 200V
