Panel Details

The insulation used to produce the panels has a thermal resistance up to five times greater than lightweight thermal blocks, thus eliminating the need for additional insulation. The shape of the panels has been carefully developed to minimize thermal bridging at the T Beams; when installed, the panels form an unbroken wall to wall layer of insulation below the floor beams. The system is quick and easy to install and produces a floor with an excellent thermal insulation value achieving as low as 0.1W/m2K.

Certification

The product is manufactured to the requirements of BS EN 13163 2001 and under a quality management system. BS EN ISO 9001:2000 and is Agrément Approved.

This system comprises of 3 EPS components:

■ Full insulation unit

■ Half insulation unit

■ Starter insulation unit

Longley Concrete’s insulated below beam flooring system comprises of a rigid insulation panel manufactured from lightweight, closed cell EPS, pre-stressed concrete T Beams and a structural concrete topping. The floor serves as a temporary framework to lay the structural topping and also acts as the main insulant for the finished floor.

Insulated Flooring – Below Beam

Product Information Indicative U-values of suspended below beam insulated floors

Fire Performance

Euroclass B classification can be expected.

Building Regulations

Changes to Approved Document L (ADL) were implemented in April 2006. Houses designed to the previous regulations will require radical changes in order to meet the required carbon dioxide emission reductions. A minimum reduction of 20% in CO2 emissions is required for the whole building.

The limiting U-value for the ground floor is 0.25 W/m2K. However, U-values as low as 0.10 W/K can be achieved with increased EPS panel thickness.

Underfloor Heating

Underfloor heating may be used in conjunction with the below beam insulated system. However, a minimum of 60 mm concrete topping is required above the top of the underfloor heating pipe.

Toppings

Extensive testing has been carried out on the composite action of this flooring system incorporating steel reinforced concrete and fibre reinforced concrete.

The finished topping specification is flexible to accommodate a wide variety of floor loadings to suit the application.

Handling and Storage

Packs are delivered to site wrapped in polythene. Store panels in original packaging, under cover and protected from direct sunlight. Keep boards above ground level and out of contact with solvents and materials containing volatile organic compounds such as coal tar, pitch or creosote. Do not expose to naked flame or other ignition sources during storage or installation.

Services

Do not use Longley’s insulated flooring in direct contact with PVC – sheathed electrical cables, hot water or pipes. Electrical cables should be enclosed in suitable conduit.

Health and Safety

The units are not designed for foot traffic and where access is required timber boards should be used. The product is chemically inert and requires no special treatment

Using the insulated flooring product in a suspended ground floor is an effective alternative to a Beam & Block construction.
