Objectives

In line with the K to 12 Program and the Philippine Geoportal Project, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority is in need of your assistance in verifying the

draft TVI / Registered Program map. This map shall contain location points of the different TVIs and their registered programs, contact details, and so on.

Once validated/accomplished by the TVIs, the map shall be used for the following: 1. K to 12 Mapping. 2. Online TVI/Program Map for Public Use.

3. Philippine Geoportal Project. 4. For TVET Planning and other purposes.

Mechanics The TVIs are requested to enter their coordinates and fill in other necessary details in designated Google Sheets files online. Real-time collaboration and auto-saving in Google

Drive/Docs will streamline the process and will enable TESDA administrators to monitor updates efficiently.

The TVIs might need to re-enter their coordinates and other info repeatedly depending on the number of programs offered.

Overview 1. Access Google Sheet File and search for TVI 2. Use Google Maps, Bing Maps, or other method to get coordinates

3. Entering the coordinates and other details in the Google Sheet Identifying TVI Coordinates

1. Open the Google Sheets file via the link shared to you with this PDF file.

2. Overview: The Google Sheet contains

information of TESDA Registered Programs per region. The TVI representative

needs to accomplish the following:

a. Enter the lat-long

coordinates of their TVI location in the spreadsheet

b. Verify/update contact information per program, e.g. address,

telephone number, etc. c. Complete other

important information in the columns highlighted

in red

3. Search for TVI/programs:

Apply a filter by clicking the dropdown arrow in the upper right corner of column G (Name

of Institution) and typing a keyword.

Or you can type Ctrl+F for a keyword search or apply a different filter.

Multiple rows will be displayed depending on the number of

registered programs. If your registered program is not included in the list, go

to Data, Turn of Filter to display all rows.

If your programs/TVI is not listed, click on a row header, “insert one above/below” to

add details manually.

4. Enter coordinates: The TVI’s coordinates are

crucial in this program. Hence, we will use Google Maps to identify coordinates. For areas

that have unclear visuals in Google Maps, we can use as bingmaps, or use alternative

processes such as geolocation via html5, wifi positioning, or mobile app.

Googlemaps: Open a new tab in your

Chrome or Firefox browser in your desktop1 and open Googlemaps at

http://maps.google.com

1 The Google Maps Mobile App, while easier to use in geolocation via GPS, involves more steps to

display lat-long coordinates. Hence, this procedure would prioritize Google Maps for desktop

5. If you are currently in the vicinity of the TVI, center the

map to your current location by clicking the location button on the lower right portion of

the screen. Or, manually search for your

TVI by typing in the name of the school or nearby landmark in the search bar (upper left

corner). Drag and zoom until you have

found your TVI location. You can switch to Google

Earth View (lower left) for a satellite view of the map If you can’t find your location,

go to www.bing.com/maps as an alternative or proceed to Step 10.

6. Once you have pinpointed the

TVI’s location, right-click the placemarker or anywhere within the TVI structure (ideally the center of the building or the flagpole) and click What’s here?

7. The search bar will display the

point’s coordinates below the search bar. Click the coordinates. They will be

displayed in the search bar itself.

8. Highlight the coordinates and copy (Ctrl+C)

9. Go back to the Google sheets and paste the

coordinates. Do not switch the lat-long coordinates or put spaces/ comma. If you have done this successfully, skip to Step 11.

10. If you are unable to locate the

TVI via Googlemaps due to poor satellite imagery, you can use any of the following (by

order of accuracy): Option 1: Map Coordinates

Mobile App (Android) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=sands.mapCoordinates.android

a. Download and Install b. Enable GPS (and wifi if

possible)

c. Position yourself by the flagpole, the middle of the building/school lot,

or near the entrance d. Open the app.

Option 2: Mobile

your smartphone (Wifi

signal increases accuracy)

b. Position yourself near the entrance or at the

middle of the structure and shoot a picture using your phone

c. Open picture gallery d. View picture’s Details

to view the photo’s

coordinates under Location

e. If you can, copy these

coordinates in Googlemaps and fine-tune location to get

more accurate coordinates

f. Copy and type the

coordinates in the Google Sheets

Option 3: HTML5 Geolocation

a. Go to this website:

http:/ /www.w3schools.com/html/tryit.asp?filename=t

ryhtml5_geolocation b. Click Try It. The

website calculates your

position via surrounding wifi networks and displays coordinates.
