Instructions for Students to Download the UofL version of Respondus
Lockdown Browser
The following instructions will show students how to download the UofL version of the Respondus
Lockdown Browser from the Blackboard Help pages. Both PC and MAC versions follow the same process.
Follow these steps to install Respondus Lockdown Browser:
NOTE: Please use Internet Explorer for PC and Safari for MAC to download the
installation program. Step 1: Log into Blackboard
Step 2: Click on the HELP tab (on right, just under the University of Louisville logo)

Step 3: On the left will be three white HELP boxes - Click on STUDENT HELP
Step 4: (In Internet Explorer 8) - Security Warning Dialog Box - click NO
Step 4: (in Internet Explorer 9) - Security Warning – Click “Show all content”
Using IE 8: Be sure to READ
the question contained in the
box that pops up (shown at
left) If your Security Warning
box question is as it appears
here, you click “NO”.
Using IE 9: (shown below) If
this is what you see, click the
button that says “Show all
content.”
You may see more security warning boxes as the page loads asking about giving access to the intranet site.
You can click No on this. It may appear three to four times before the page fully loads. (Shown Below)

Step 5: Click on RESPONDUS LOCKDOWN BROWSER

Step 6: This page contains a quick start guide, instructions for downloading the browser, a list of features as well as contact information. Click on the Respondus.com link (shown in the red box below) provided here to install the UofL version of Lockdown Browser.
Step 7: The new page design below should read your operating system. But if it doesn’t be sure to read the blue box on the left before clicking the Yellow install button on the right. If the system type is incorrect look toward the bottom of the Blue section for the question, “Do you need the Mac version?” for this example. If you do need the Mac version click the question and the screen will switch to allow you to download the Mac version.

PC Users Continue to page 5 below.
MAC Users Continue to page 6 below.
PC View Step 8: Once you click Install, the screen below will appear and ask you if you want to run or save the file. It install click “Run” shown in the red rectangle below.
The Computer labs on
Belknap Campus have a
copy of Lockdown
Browser on them. These
labs are located in
Ekstrom Library and the
MITC Center.

Step 9: Click to install the browser and follow the prompts to finish the install of the program. PC View of installer:

Lockdown Browser, It will ask
you to close all programs like
other browsers, screen capture
programs and any other
program that would allow you
to copy/paste or print to or
from an exam. If Lockdown
Browser doesn’t run properly
after you have allowed the
program to close these
programs automatically, you
may need to close the
programs manually and then
restart Lockdown Browser.
