COOKING WITH THE HALOGEN OVEN

COOKING GUIDE

COOKING METHOD NOTE

BAKING

Place food in a metal, silicon or tempered glass baking pan with maximum 30 cm diameter leave enough room for the flow of hot air around the food. You may also use aluminium foil or aluminium foil containers.

Consult the chart inside for guidelines regarding baked foods If the baked food starts browning too quickly reduce the temperature or cover it with baking paper or aluminium foil

alternatively you can pre-heat the oven or use an extender ring to create more space between heating element and food

BROILING Place the food directly on the two-way rack for very thick cuts of meats, turn the food at the halfway point like roasting, broiling time may vary depending on cut, size, amount of fat, etc

STEAMINGYou can steam vegetables at the same time you cook your main dish by placing the vegetables in an aluminium foil pouch: add a few drops of water and seal the pouch

You can also add a cup of water in the bottom pot, with savoury herbs and spices to steam fish or vegetables.

FRYING

You can get the effect of deep-fried French fries without all the oil, simply by dipping potato strips in polyunsatrated cooking oil, allow the excess oil to drain away and cook according to cooking guide

To make delicious fried chicken: dip chicken pieces in batter and then in cooking oil, drain excess oil and cook according to chart provided

1 add warm water to the glass bowl 4 ensuring there is no more than a few centimetres (about 4-5 cm) in depth and add a small amount of mild detergent

2 Replace the lid 1 and set the thermostat 12 to WASH/THAW and the timer 11 to 10 minutes The water and hot air circulation in the glass bowl 4 will help clean away some of the cooking stains and loosen the burnt-on residue You can leave the racks and other accessories inside the glass bowl 4

3 When the timer 11 switches OFF, remove the lid 1 and rinse the glass bowl 4 and accessories in clean warm water to remove all soap residue

4 If the oven is particularly dirty, replace the lid 1 and repeat the process for another 2 or 3 minutes

5 Wipe the metal cover under the lid 1 with a soft, damp, lint free cloth moistened with a mild detergent solution Dry thoroughly with a soft cloth never immerse the lid in water or any other liquids

6 all accessories (except the lid) can be washed in the dishwasher 7 HInT: before cooking you can spray the two-way rack 8 or

low rack 7 with an non-stick spray or oil to prevent food sticking to the racks

Cooking time depends on the size, weight, type etc of the food to be cooked Most meats come with recommended cooking times, but since halogen ovens cook faster than conventional ovens, you may need to adjust the cooking time To ensure the food is cooked properly, use a cooking thermometer or pierce the food with a fork or skewer to check for signs of it being uncooked When cooking vegetables check for tenderness always check your food is ful ly cooked before serving

Distribute the food evenly in the halogen oven to ensure an even flow of air can circulate all around the food avoid stacking food in an attempt to cook more food, if air cannot circulate around the food, you will only fully cook the top always leave spaces for the air to travel Cooking time may vary according to the weight of the food and individual taste When you become familiar with the oven you will be able to determine the best cooking times and temperatures to suit your personal preference Using the tongs to remove the cooking racks is advisable
