Competitiveness and diversification of clusters in
FPT.PEOPLE-2011-IRSES Project No. 295050 Project acronym: FOLPSEC
Competitiveness and diversification of clusters in
Poland by region
Before 2001 in Poland there were no clusters –
why?
In the Lodz region there were many active SMEs,
A lot of people wanted to launch their own business,
A “spirit of entrepreneurship” was noticeable
An example of the Lodz region
but there were a number of main factors that restricted development:
A historical stigma – distrust (towards authorities, other
entrepreneurs and institutions),
 Economy in transition,
 Lack social capital,
Lack of specialization – everyone is doing the same (the same
product, market, customer).
