To East Anglia’s rich artistic heritage another chapter has been added by the formation of the Institute of East Anglian Artists, a new and forward-looking vehicle to help further the ambitions and aspirations of artists and the arts in East Anglia – which I support fully.
How did the IEA originate? Like all new ventures it started small but with large palettes overflowing with enthusiasm. About four years ago Adrian Hill of the Picturecraft Gallery and Brian Ryder, an internationally recognised artist, evolved the concept. From then on the hard work and organising began, with the valuable help of some well-established local artists. There are now 8 full members, 9 associates and 8 provisional members.
Last year’s Open Exhibition in the Picturecraft Gallery in Holt attracted 180 submissions, from which 80 paintings were selected and shown.
The Institute is proud to hold this first Members’ Exhibition at one of Norfolk’s long-established and prestigious galleries. It will be the forerunner of similar exhibitions to be held throughout the region.
I have confidence that over the months and years ahead the Institute will gather even more momentum and become a society of national standing, and I am proud to be a full member of it.
