Institute of Acoustics (U.K.) to establish Stephens Trust Fund

The Institute of Acoustics is in the process of establishing the R. W. B. Stephens Trust Fund in honor of its founding president and one of the great international figures in acoustics. The Trust is to support an archive of the history of acoustics based on the many books, publications, letters, and papers of the late Professor Stephens. It is also hoped that the Trust Fund can assist scholars in acoustics who are visiting Great Britain from abroad. For information about and contributions to the Trust Fund contact Insti-

International Commission on Acoustics plans 1995 ICA

The commission has announced details about the 15th International

Congress on Acoustics to be held in 1995. The congress will take place 26- 30 June 1995 in Trondheim, Norway. This will be the first time since the Madrid Congress in 1977 that a Monday-Friday format will be used. Other congresses were held from midweek to midweek, with the intervening weekend left open for tours and excursions. In the case of the Trondheim Congress, it was assumed that most participants would prefer to participate in tours either before or after the meeting.

Call for paperst1992 International Congress of Audiology, Japan

The organizers of the 21st International Congress of Audiology have released further details about the meeting. The congress will be held at the Morioka Grand Hotel in Morioka, Japan, 31 August--1 September 1992. The program includes sessions for contributed papers on any subject of audiology, contributed papers and three round-table sessions on otoacous- tic emission, ecology, and audiology and on recent changes in the etiology of hearing disorders. In addition to these sessions, there are two precongress symposia that have been scheduled for 31 August 1992. The first deals with identification, diagnosis, and management of the young heating-impaired child and the second with basic studies on acoustic trauma.

The deadline for submitting papers is 29 February 1992. All correspon- dence should be sent to Secretariat XXI International Congress of Audiolo- gy, c/o Simul International, Inc., Kowa Bldg. No. 9, 1-8-10 Akasaka, Min- ato-ku, Tokyo 107, Japan.

FASE recognizes some European journals The Council of the Federation of Acoustical Societies of Europe has

recently decided on the applications of various European acoustics journals to receive FASE recognition. A number of scientific and other criteria were considered and the following six journals were found to have fulfilled all the requirements for recognition: ACUSTICA (Germany), Applied Acoustics (United Kingdom), Archives of Acoustics (Poland), Journal d•4coustique (France), Journal of Sound and Vibration (United Kingdom), and UL- TRASONICS (United Kingdom). This recognition entitles these journals to display the FASE logo.

Nanjing University to hold physical acoustics workshop--September 1992

The Institute of Acoustics of Nanjing University has announced that a physical acoustics workshop will be held 14-21 September 1992 in Nanjing. This is an annual event hosted by the Chinese Acoustical Society, except this particular meeting takes place immediately following the 14th ICA so that international participation is possible. The timing is such that there is an overlap of one day with the international symposium on acoustical imag- ing, also held in Nanjing. The emphasis of the workshop will be on all aspects of photo-, thermo-, and nonlinear acoustics and other current topics in physical acoustics. Participants at the 14th ICA who wish to at- tend should contact Miss T. H. Wang, Institute of Acoustics, Nanjing Uni- versity, Nanjing, China, before 30 June 1992.
