Introduction

With S&C IntelliLink Remote Setup Software, you can access every S&C automation product that communicates using the DNP 3.0 protocol remotely from a computer connected to your DNP network. You will be able to configure controls, access historical and real-time data, and troubleshoot equipment. Optional password protection can be activated to prevent unauthorized use of IntelliLink Remote software.

To activate IntelliLink Remote software, you need to download a software license from the S&C Automation Customer Support Portal. S&C automation controls with software revision 3.4.x and lower register the version 5.0 of IntelliLInk Remote software with a license key. Controls with software revision 3.5.x and above register the version 6.0 of IntelliLink Remote software by registering the MAC address of the computer onto which the IntelliLink Remote software is installed. Contact your local S&C Sales Office for more information.

IntelliLink Remote software communicates with the following S&C products operating under the DNP 3 protocol:

• IntelliRupter® PulseCloser® Fault Interrupters

Using IntelliLink Remote Setup Software

When you connect to an IntelliRupter fault interrupter with the Wi-Fi link, the IntelliRupter fault interrupter does not function as a DNP network entry point. You can configure that IntelliRupter fault interrupter, but you cannot use IntelliLink Remote software to connect to other IntelliRupter fault interrupters or S&C controls.

With an all IntelliRupter system, your computer will be connected to a gateway or headend radio for IntelliLink Remote software access to the DNP network. See Figure 8. Then, you can connect to a specific IntelliRupter fault interrupter or other S&C control, by entering its DNP address.

Connecting to an IntelliRupter Fault Interrupter

Serial Connection to a 6800 Series Control

S&C IntelliLink Remote software can be used with a variety of S&C controls.

Figure 9 on page 11 shows a computer connected to the SCADA communication port of a 6800 Series Automatic Switch Control. An S&C serial-to-SCADA port cable is required, catalog number 07-001355-01. The serial link to the SCADA port can also be sent over a fiber-optic transceiver, point-to-point radio, or modem. Your computer must have a DNP address registered with the S&C controls it will contact through IntelliLink Remote software.

The 6800 Series Automatic Switch Control is the DNP router, sending messages through its other SCADA port to its DNP radio, which communicates with the other S&C controls. With this setup, you can configure and troubleshoot all your DNP controls by connecting to one control. You do not affect this control’s participation in an IntelliTeam® Automatic Restoration System, and its team does not go to an Out-of-Ready state.

Using IntelliLink Remote Setup Software

NOTICEWhen you connect your computer to a radio in a switch control (or the headend radio) and disconnect the control (or SCADA system), the IntelliTeam Automatic Restoration System (or SCADA system) normally connected to that radio will not perform its normal function . The team of devices will go to the Out-of-Ready state, or the SCADA system will not be able to communicate .

S&C recommends that you connect your computer to a separate, dedicated radio . For UtiliNet Radios, the DNP address of this radio must be listed in the Frame Recognition DCW of each radio with which you will communicate . For S&C SpeedNet Radios, the DNP and IP address of the dedicated radio must be listed in the routing table .

Figure 8 on page 10 shows a computer connected via Ethernet UDP/IP, Ethernet TCP/IP, or a serial connection through a DNP network entry point to the headend radio. The DNP network entry point can be a device terminal server or a DNP proxy server, or the computer can also be directly connected to a dedicated radio. You can configure and troubleshoot an entire network through a DNP radio.

When a DNP master station is also accessing information from the S&C control equipment, the communication link must be capable of properly routing both DNP message streams. Please contact your local S&C Sales Office for information about applications that involve more complex communication systems.

Connecting to a DNP Network Entry Point

12 S&C Instruction Sheet 1032-500

IntelliLink Remote software allows you to connect locally to a device that uses the DNP 3 protocol and to remotely access another control by calling its DNP address. Then, you can change setpoints, monitor real-time data, view event logs, and generate reports as if you were connected directly to the faceplate of that control.

Follow these steps to connect via a control’s DNP address:

STEP 1. Connect your computer to the device that is your entry point to the DNP network.

S&C Automation Device—Use the SCADA port (Port A) on the control. You will need a DB9 to 6-pin IDC cable; S&C catalog number 007-001355-01.

Headend DNP Radio—Use the appropriate cable.

Remote Terminal Server—Configure your computer to communicate with the server.

STEP 2. Start the IntelliLink software, if it is not already running. The IntelliLink software will attempt to connect using the communication parameters that it saved the last time it connected. If you want to change to a different DNP address, click on the Cancel button and change parameters. See Figure 10.

Figure 10. Communication dialog box for version 5 of IntelliLink software and below. If you have an S&C Universal Interface Module installed, this dialog box will look different.

Connecting Via DNP

STEP 3. From IntelliLink software, select the Tools option. See Figure 10 for version 5 of IntelliLink software and below, or Figure 11 on page 13 for version 6 of IntelliLink software.

STEP 4. In the Communications tab of the Options dialog box, select the DNP setting as the Protocol option.

STEP 5. Set the Connection type. If you are connecting directly to a 6800 Series Control or to a DNP radio, select the Serial option. If you are connecting to a server, select the TCP/IP or UDP/IP option, depending on your network configuration.

STEP 6. If you selected the Serial option in Step 5, enter the following:

Port—This is the port on your computer to which the DNP communication cable is connected.

Baud Rate—This is the baud rate between the switch control and the directly connected communication device (radio, modem, etc.).

STEP 7. If you selected the TCP/IP or UDP/IP option in Step 5, enter the following:

Peer IP or DNS Name—Enter the IP or DNS name of the server.

Peer Port—Enter the server’s TCP or UDP port number.

Our Port—Enter your computer’s UDP port number.

Using IntelliLink Remote Setup Software

S&C Instruction Sheet 1032-500 13

Figure 11. Communication dialog box for version 6 of IntelliLink software and above.

STEP 8. Use Default Timeout—Check this box to use the default Timeout value. Unless you are connecting directly to a control (TTY for software versions below 3.5.x), it is recommended that you set the Timeout value manually:

Timeout—The timeout duration (in milliseconds) for communications.

Retries —The number of times that the switch control tries to connect with the remote device or send a request when there is no response.

Our Address—The DNP address associated with the local computer (the master station address). Set this unique value according to the routing configuration in your DNP network.

STEP 9. Set the Destination Address—This is the DNP/RTU address for the control with which you want to communicate. (To communicate with a control you are locally connected to, and when you do not know its DNP/RTU address, set the Destination Address value to the Self setting.)

The Destination Address field is actually a drop-down menu that automati-cally stores the last several DNP addresses that have been visited.

STEP 10. Click on the Connect button. Once connected, you can view IntelliLink Software screens as if connected directly to the remote switch control.

NOTICEThe default refresh rate of 1000 ms is intended for use with local connections where the channel bandwidth is dedicated to the connection . When connecting over a network, it is recommended that the manual refresh be used or the refresh rate extended to avoid putting excessive strain on the network .

IntelliLink Remote software offers several options for refreshing data:

From an IntelliLink software screen, select the Tools>Options entry. Click on the Screen Refresh tab of the Options dialog box. See Figure 12 and Figure 13 on page 16. The parameters on these screens include:

• Fill On Open (“Fill Screen on Open for Manual Refresh Mode” for software 3.5 and above)—When checked or the Yes option is selected, all the data on a screen is requested whenever a new screen is called up.

• Refresh Mode Effective (for software versions 3.5 and above)—This allows you to toggle between Manual and Auto mode at any time. It also is available at the bottom of the IntelliLink Remote data screen.

• Refresh Mode On Start Up—By selecting the Once option, the data on a screen is requested only when a new screen is called up. By selecting Auto, the screen is updated after the interval specified in Delay between consecutive screen refreshes setpoint. You can also toggle between the Once and Auto settings by using the buttons at the bottom of the IntelliLink Remote data screen.

• Delay between consecutive screen refreshes—If the Refresh Mode option is set to the Auto setting, the data are gathered at this interval.

• Show Refresh Progress (software versions below 3.5.x)—When checked, the status bar at the bottom right of the IntelliLink Remote data screen shows the progress of the Refresh operation.

If the Refresh Mode option is not set to the Auto setting, you may refresh the screen manually by clicking the Once button at the bottom of the IntelliLink Remote data screen. For software versions below 3.5.x, you can also refresh just one specific parameter by right-clicking the parameter and selecting the Refresh Item option.

For software versions below 3.5.x, IntelliLink software has three Access Password levels. From an IntelliLink software screen, select the Tools>Security menu option. The Set Access Passwords dialog box will open. See Figure 14. The parameters on this screen include:

• Master Password—Setting a master password enables password security. Once the master password has been set, you will not be able to start IntelliLink Remote Setup Software again without using the master password or one of the other configured pass-words. The master password is required to enable, disable, or change other passwords, and to disable the master password itself—which will remove password protection.

NOTICEBe sure to record your master password . Without it you will not be able to change passwords or remove password protection .

• Read/Write Password—A user who logs in with this password can view screens and change setpoints but not change passwords. This password cannot be set until you have set the master password.

• Read-Only Password—A user who logs in with this password can view screens but can-not change set points. This password cannot be set until you have set the master password.

Remote Operation

The security setting for S&C controls is set on the Setup>Security screen. See the “Security” section of S&C Instruction Sheet 766-530 for IntelliRupter fault interrupters, 1045-530 for 6800 Series Automatic Switch controls, and 1045M-530 for 6801M Automatic Switch Operators.

IntelliLink Remote software can remotely operate IntelliCap Plus and IntelliCap 2000 Automatic Capacitor Controls. Other S&C automatic controls cannot be operated by Intel-liLink Remote software but can be operated over a SCADA system by device-specific DNP commands.

IntelliCap 2000 Automatic Capacitor Controls, IntelliRupter fault interrupters, 6800 Series Automatic Switch Controls, 6801M Automatic Switch Operators, and IntelliNode Interface Modules using software revision 3.5.x and above can be operated by IntelliLink Remote software commands when the IntelliLink Remote Commands setting on the Setup>Security screen has been set to the Enabled state.

Because these commands do not operate the IntelliRupter fault interrupter, they can always be used by IntelliLink Remote software:

• Validate settings

• Apply settings

• Reset buffer

• All log screen functions

• Functions on all File, Connections, Data, and Tools menus

These commands operate the IntelliRupter fault interrupter, and can only be used by IntelliLink Remote software when the IntelliLink Remote Commands setting on the Setup > Security screen has been set to the Enabled mode:

• Open operation

• Close operation

• Ground trip enable or disable

• Second closing profile on or off

• Circuit testing enable or disable

• Test on backfeed enable or disable

• Protection profile selection

• Hot line tag enable or disable

• Remote operation on or off

• Run PulseClose test

• Run battery test

• Prohibit or enable restoration

• Clear manual operation

• SEF trip enable or disable

• Single phase trip enable or disable

• Loop restoration enable or disable
