INSTALLATION STEPSSolar heating for swimming pools with absorbers normally will be operated with a direct circuit. The water from the pool will be pumped directly through the absorbers.

QUOTATION• Ensure that there is sufficient Western or Northern roof space available for

the installation.• Double storey installation may require pump upgrade to either 1.1–.5kw. • Consider lifting of tiles/concrete and discuss with home owner.

PLANNING• Arrive at the time that you agreed with the

customer. If you are running late communicate.

• Always ensure that you have sufficient fittings on hand.

• Plan the installation and determine the route that the piping should take.

• Discuss and agree the piping route with the home owner.

• Dig trenches in the garden with minimal disturbance of plants.

1 Pack out the panels where the installation is intended.

2 Determine the piping route and area of fixing and fitting.

INSTALLATION

Solapool panels1 Connect all the panels to each other using Solapool

connectors.

2 Fit stop ends.

3 Secure all rubber fittings using The Works (ABE product).

4 Do not over tighten the pipe clamps.

Pipework1 Clean and de-burr all cut pipe ends. Lightly roughen the

ends of the pipe with some sandpaper prior to applying the glue.

2 Fit piping neatly onto the wall using 90 degree and 45 degree connectors to ensure a snug “hugging” of the pipe to the wall and around the gutters.

3 Install the non-return valve so the water can flow up to the panels buy not flow back to the pump when the pump is switched off – the spring should be facing upwards.

4 Install the bypass valve between the tee taking water to the panels and the tee returning water from the panels to the pool return pipe.

5 Install the vacuum breaker at the hot outlet (top) of the panels making sure that this is at the highest point in the system. The short pipe under the vacuum breaker must be as close to vertical as possible.

6 Install the downdraft brake valve at the lowest point in the hot water return pipe – if possible, just above the tee joining this pipe to the pool return pipe.

7 Connect the pipework to the panels.

8 Do not backfill any trenches until the system has been commissioned and checked for leaks.

• Clean out the weir basket and the pump intake basket and re-fit. Backwash and rinse the filter to make sure that flow through the filter is good.

• Open the downdraft valve fully, close the bypass valve fully and start the pump.

• Slowly close the downdraft brake, a little at a time, letting the system stabilise after each adjustment until there are no more (or very few) bubbles coming into the pool and there is no audible cavitation coming from the panels. Do not continue to close the downdraft brake valve after the bubbles disappear, as flow will be restricted and this may cause the pool cleaner not to work.

• Check the system on the roof for leaks. Secure any leaking rubber fittings by re-applying The Works and re-clamping. Do not over tighten the pipe clamps. Check all the joints in the PVC piping for leaks and repair if necessary.

• Plug in the pool cleaner and make sure that it works. If the Kreepy does not work, open the bypass valve. If the Kreepy now starts working, a bigger pump may be required. If the Kreepy still does not work, there is a problem with the Kreepy itself.

• When the system is functioning and there are no leaks, the trenches can be neatly backfilled and the lawn repaired as best as possible.

Tile roofZinc roof

• Place pool panels in desired layout. •Connect pool panels.•Affix universal fixing bracket to roof.•Attach Solapool panel to fixing bracket.

•Place tile roof hook underneath tile and attach to batten using wood screws.

•Attach Solapool panel to fixing bracket after it has been attached to tile roof hook.

SECURE PANELS ON THE ROOF

COMMISSIONING THE SYSTEM

Fix panels to the roof using the universal fixing bracket OR other approved method (galvanised hoop iron, stainless steel cable tie, galvanised S-bracket).

Screw-in the ring-screw through the roofing into the roof construction. Seal all roof penetrations with UV resistant sealant.
