1. Notice This guide has been written by the Dassault Systèmes Education Department to help

students order and install ICEM Surf Student Edition.

2. ICEM Surf Student Software

2.1. Download ICEM Surf Student Edition

ICEM Surf 2020 Student software can be downloaded from the following location:

2.2. Included ICEM Surf products within ICEM Surf Student

ICEM Surf Professional: Often described as the reference system for the creation of

Class-A surfaces, ICEM Surf Professional is the base module for the creation and

modification of demanding free-form surfaces. In a very short time you can model

components with surfaces that are doubly curved and smooth at the same time. Unique

construction and modelling tools with integrated real-time diagnosis rapidly lead you to

the desired results.

ICEM Surf Master: focuses on global filleting, Overcrowning, Feature Design and

global connections of surfaces. With Feature Design for example, static pre-defined

form changes can be applied globally to complete models in one operation, while all

surface structures, connections and design features are maintained.

ICEM Surf Magic: provides additional tools for surface construction, and makes global

dynamic design and modelling of complex surface models possible.

ICEM Surf’s Realtime Rendering: provides an advanced set of rendering tools that

allow the designer to generate a photo-realistic representation of the CAD model

applying effects such as textures, transparency, shadows and reflections, set lighting

conditions that can control the ambient occlusion, lens flares and HDR lights

ICEM Surf Scan Modelling: allows the user to efficiently handle dense, ordered, or

random point clouds generated by automatic laser and photo digitisers. Tools are

provided to enable the designer to directly, locally or globally, model point clouds or

facet data used for automatic quick surface creation.

ICEM Surf Advanced Tools: Offering advanced modeling capabilities such as

Accelerated Surfaces and to create (with the tube function) and diagnose car body

gaps. The levelling analysis function enables to check the homogeneity of a surface

area compared to a reference area. Advanced diagnosis functions for checking

unwanted flat areas in a surface model.

ICEM Surf Safety Analysis: developed primarily for safety studies in the automotive

industry.

2.3. End User Agreement

The Student License Agreement sets some usages for ICEM Surf Student Edition. In

particular:

You must install the software on a computer owned or/and leased by you [...]

identified in the order, placed by you by type, serial number, target ID and installation

address. (Article 1)

[You must be] a natural person (i) regularly enrolled as a student in an academic

program, (ii) holding a valid registration receipt for the current semester or a valid letter

of enrolment on school letterhead for the current year (iii) who is registered on 3DS

Academy. (Article 1)

ICEM Surf may only be operated by you, on your personal computer and only for your

individual, personal and non-commercial learning, academic and/or research purposes,

excluding any other purposes such as but without limitation any direct or indirect

industrial, commercial and/or business purposes. (Article 2)

3. System requirements

Here you will find information on system requirements for ICEM Surf 2020.

3.1. Supported platforms and operating system versions

ICEM Surf 2020 supports Windows 10.

3.2. Harddisk memory requirements for the installation

Component Required harddisk memory

ICEM Surf and additional software products 600 MB

TIFF Library 475 MB

PDF Manuals 50 MB per language

HTML Online Manual 70 MB per language

3.3. Minimum requirements for the graphics configuration

OpenGL 3.2 or higher is required to benefit from all features of the

Realtime Renderer.

A screen resolution of 1600x1024 pixels is required at least. ICEM Surf

provides High DPI Support.

3.4. Memory requirements for RAM and swap space

ICEM Surf requires at least 8 GB Main Memory.

For processing large amount of data (e.g. scans) it will need considerably more

Main Memory.

The total amount of Main Memory + Swap Space must be approximately 8

times larger than the size of the data base/scan file to be used.

The memory in the ICEM Surf work directory must be at least twice the size of

the data base/scan file to be used.

3.5. DSLS version

ICEM Surf 2020 requires minimum DSLS version R2020x. For further updates,

customers can obtain a download version from the Dassault Systemes server

http://www.3ds.com/support/.

4. Installation and Setup procedure

4.1. Download and unzip the zip files

Download the zip file in a temporary directory (C:\temp\ICEM Surf in our example).

NB: ICEM Surf Student Edition install package is composed of only one ZIP file.

Extract the zip file in the current folder. Then, double click:

ICEM_Surf_Student.AllOS\1\setup.exe

4.2. Welcome screen

Select option: “ICEM Surf Student Edition”

Press “Next”

4.3. Installation Directory

Choose the directory where ICEM Surf Student Edition will be copied too.

Note: Around 500MB disk storage is necessary to install ICEM Surf Student

We recommend using the default location.

4.4. Online Manual

Optionally choose the Online Manual in the required language then press “Next”

4.5. Short Cut Preferences

Press “Next” for Short Cut preferences. (Default settings recommended)

4.6. Begin Installation

You are now ready to commence the installation: Select “Yes” to begin

4.7. Installation in progress

The installation of ICEM Surf Student will now take a few minutes. An information panel

will appear once complete.

Select “OK” to clear information window

Select “Next” to proceed to final panel

4.8. Troubleshooting

Installation is now complete: Select “Finish” to exit the Installer.

Should a problem occur during the installation procedure, this will be displayed in the window,

the details of the exact cause of the problem can be viewed under the “View Log” button.

5. DSLS Licensing for ICEM Surf Student

5.1. How to import the license key received by email

You will receive the license for ICEM Surf Student to the email address provided during

the registration process. Attached to the email received, will be a .LIC file.

Save the .LIC file to a directory of your choice.

From the Windows start menu or from your desktop, select Local License

Management for ICEM Surf Student Edition

From within the Local Key Management Tool that appears, select: File > Import

Locate and select the license (.LIC file) you previously saved from your email into the

directory you chose.

Your ICEM Surf Student Edition 2020 license (K49-STU) should appear in the list:

6. Running ICEM Surf Student Edition 2020

Double click on the desktop icon ICEM Surf Student Edition 2020.0 to launch ICEM Surf

Congratulations! You are now done and you may now shape your ideas in 3D.
