AMAZON ECHO EUROPE
- WITH IFTTT & BEOLINK GATEWAY VOICE CONTROL
Thomas Benjaminsen Nov 2016
CHAPTER ONE
RESETTING YOUR AMAZON ECHO
Amazon Echo purchased and installed in UK and Germany will be able to
communicate with BeoLink Gateway via IFTTT to our cloud service called “Khimo”.
This guide will show you how to configure your Amazon Echo or Amazon Dot to be set up
with access to all IFTTT features and thereby your Bang & Olufsen products via a
BeoLink Gateway with remote access (KHIMO) enabled.
If you have previously installed the Amazon echo/ dot device it is recommended to first
reset it to factory default.
To reset your Echo device (1st generation):
Use a paper clip (or similar tool) to press and hold the Reset button at the base of your
device, for five seconds. After you press and hold the Reset button, the light ring on
your Echo device turns orange, and then blue.
Wait for the light ring to turn off and on again. The light ring then turns orange, and
your Echo device enters setup mode.
To reset your Echo Dot that has volume buttons (2nd Generation):
Press and hold the Microphone off and Volume down buttons at the same time until
the light ring turns orange (about 20 seconds). The light ring turns blue.
Wait for the light ring to turn off and on again. The light ring then turns orange again, and
your Echo Dot enters setup mode.

1. Go to the iTunes App store or Google Play store and download the Alexa app to your
phone or tables. This is for later use.
YOU CAN CONTINUE THE SETTING UP FROM THE ALEXA APP, BUT THIS GUIDE
WILL SHOW YOU HOW TO SET IT UP FROM A BROWSER WHICH IS MORE
CONVIENIENT.
2. On a laptop or PC open your browser and enter this address:
http://alexa.amazon.com (use the incognito mode to avoid any “memory effect” from
your browser )
3. You will be asked for your amazon credentials or to sign up a new account. Choose
“New to Amazon? Create an Account”.

IF YOU ALREADY HAVE AN AMAZON ACCOUNT USE THIS SAME ACCOUNT,
OR IF USED FOR DEMONSTRATION IN THE SHOWROOM, CREATE A NEW
ACCOUNT TO AVOID VOICE PURCHASES FROM YOUR REGISTRED CREDIT

4. NEW REGISTRATION: Fill in your name and email address. Make sure to use an
email address that has not previously been registered with Amazon. If needed create

“Smart Home” you can add

Amazon echo voice
commands directly to
control your Hue lights
KHIMO is a great service that provides an encrypted and very secure remote access to
devices. This service is available on the BeoLink Gateway and needed in order to have
Amazon Echo send commands via IFTTT to the a macro on the BLGW. This also gives
your customer full access to his home remotely via the BeoLink app.
The first month is free, hereafter a yearly subscription fee of $119 (£90) is needed.
It is free to sign up with installer account, the yearly fee is payable by your
customer and charged for each BLGW connected to the installer account.

HOW TO CONNECT IFTTT WITH BEOLINK GATEWAY
IFTTT (if this then that) is an online service that ties all kinds of devices and services
together in one cloud service
– Start by going to www.IFTTT.com and sign up for an account
Page 17
– You can also download and use the IFTTT app, but here we will just continue to
create commands, called “Applets” via your browser.
– Click on “Search” and type in “Bang & Olufsen”
– Select the ”Bang & Olufsen BeoLink Gateway” channel
– Click ”Connect”
Page 18
– A new window will pop up
– IFTTT asks Khimo for access to your BLGW
– Click ”Authorize”
– You are now connected to the BeoLink Gateway channel
Page 19
– Again, choose the ”Search” tab
– Select the ”Amazon Alexa” channel
– Click ”Connect”
Page 20
– Enter the same (US) Amazon.com account, as you used for the
installation of the Amazon Alexa
– You are now connected to the Amazon Alexa channel
Page 21
HOW TO CREATE A ”APPLET” ON IFTTT
We have now connected the BLGW and the Amazon Echo to our IFTTT account. Next,
we want to create a so-called ”Applet” in order to give Amazon Echo a voice-command,
which will then trigger a macro on our BLGW
Page 22
– Click on the ”My Applets” tab, and then ”New Applet”
– Click ”this”
– Find the ”Amazon Alexa” channel and choose trigger method
– In this case, we want to trigger using ”say a specific phrase”
– Choose your phrase
– Be aware that the trigger word is: ”Alexa trigger”
– In this example the complete trigger will be: ”Alexa trigger tv”
Page 23
– Click ”that”
– This will be the event that happens, when we say ”Alexa trigger tv”
– Search for and choose the ”Bang & Olufsen BeoLink” channel
– Choose ”Activate a scene”
– From the dropdown list – choose the macro you have created in BLGW
that will turn the TV on.
– Click “Create action”
Page 24
– Click ”Finish”, after 1-2 minutes the Applet should be working
– Your applet will have an ID, and you will be able to find and edit it under
the ”My Applets” tab.
– Now it’s time to try! Say ”Alexa, trigger tv”
– Your chosen macro should now be activated.
– HAVE FUN!
