• Describe how Nova Scotia is coming together to address the issue of smoking during pregnancy

• Discuss some of our learnings from that process

Background

• Motivated by Expecting to Quit

• In 2005 25% of women in NS were smoking during pregnancy

• 50% relapse rate within 1 year of pregnancy

• 3 year Health Canada funding $80 k.

Project Goal

• to build capacity and generate action around a best practice approach to pregnancy and tobacco

for Professionals who Work with Women

Presenter: Dr. Peter Selby(Centre for Addictions and Mental Health, Toronto)

Series will address key issues including best practices, a woman centred approach, motivational interviewing and special needs of the pregnant woman who uses tobacco.
