The Inspiring Inclusion Conference is for mainstream and specialist recreation and leisure activity providers in Hampshire, both managers and front line staff; including reception staff, tutors, instructors, rangers, coaches, librarians, assistants and more. Inspiring Workshops

The problem is the problem not the child – Rob LongThis workshop will use case studies to develop a user-friendly toolbox to tackle challenges and remove barriers.

Positive psychology, resilience and wellbeing – Rob LongOur children and young people cope with many stresses. How can we strengthen their self-esteem and help them value who they are? Help them achieve their unique potential? This workshop will consider Tips, Tactics and Techniques.

A long term solution to the right terminology - Iain SpeedTake the stress out of using the right terminology within publicity material and everyday language;• Lose the fear of feeling as if you are saying the wrong thing• Adopt tools to help you speak about disability with confidence• Get direction to negotiate your way through the maze of disability political correctness.

Getting your message out there. A personal journey – Geoff HoltThis will offer a number of useful solutions to help you to successfully market and communicate your organisation. From identifying your “offer” to ensuring repeat participation, we will cover the “buying cycle” and share a number of hints and tips to give your activity greater prominence.

What does good inclusion look like to parents and children? –Hampshire Parent/Carer Network (HPCN)Hear from parents of children with disability/additional needs to understand what good inclusion looks like to them and how to communicate more effectively with families. This will include a Q&A session allowing you to ask questions and gain feedback from families experiencing good, and sometimes not so good, examples of inclusion each day. www.hpcn.org.uk

Autism Awareness: True or False – Hampshire Autistic Society, Forest ForgeThis workshop raises awareness of autism through an interactive session looking at what we think we know about autism; what is true and what is false. An introduction to MakatonMakaton is a language programme using signs and symbols to help people to communicate. It is designed to support spoken language and the signs and symbols are used with speech, in spoken word order. This workshop will give an introduction to Makaton. www.makaton.org

Making activities deaf friendly – The National Deaf Children’s Society (NDCS)You will learn some small and simple steps that will enable you to communicate with deaf children, from those who have temporary deafness or mild deafness through to those who are profoundly deaf. Practical tips for good communication including British Sign Language (BSL) signs, take part in deaf friendly games and find out about the support available. www.ndcs.org.uk

Breaking down barriers to communication - Nevin Gouda, Speech & Language TherapistCommunication is central to everything we do and it can sometimes be difficult for some people, leaving them feeling isolated or frustrated.
