Many of our patients stay for months at a time. They give our patients the freedom from being restricted to lying in bed 24/7 and allow their supportive family members to stay with them comfortably. It is also nice to have the resources at our fingertips to provide the means for additional comfort without having to take time and coordinate borrowing recliners from other units. Thank you again to the Schachters for their donation!” Pictured leſt to right: Cheryl Larschan, RN, BSN, OCN, director of oncology; Joe Deem, PCT; Nicole Mine, RN, 3W clinical care coordinator; Laura Raymond, RN RELAX-OLOGY FOR ONCOLOGY On March 7, Women in Philanthropy hosted their annual Women’s Health Summit at Willoughby Golf & Country Club. 200 women attended the free event which revealed to be successful, enjoyable and insightful. Barbara McFarland, Ed.D., psychologist and author returned to deliver an engaging, versatile and interactive presentation on the perception of perfection for women; encouraging self-reflection and making it possible for each woman to take away something to enrich their lives. “In all of my years attending, this was the best health summit I’ve been to. I couldn’t believe how the speaker was able to get inside of everyone’s mind. You hung on to every word she said and you did not want to miss out on anything,” said Mercie Peach, WIP member and health summit attendee. The motivational energy created at the health summit helped WIP recruit three additional members. To learn more about becoming a part of Women in Philanthropy visit www.Martinhealth.org/WIP. Mary Elizabeth“Libby” FlippoVice President and Chief Nursing Officer

Born and raised in South Carolina, Libby wasrecruited to Martin Health

System almost two years ago to facilitate opening Tradition Medical Center. Her professional career started in banking, but 21 years ago, Libby decided to pursue a degree in nursing at the University ofAlabama at Birmingham. She fell in love with giving care as a nurse, but herdirectors knew her professionalbackground, so Libby’s responsibilitiesfrequently alternated between caregiving and administration. Libby pursued herMaster’s degree at the University ofAlabama in Huntsville. She was thenrecruited to open a 14-facility regionalchildren’s hospital in Tennessee as thecorporate director of children’s services. Not long after, her destiny of becoming a chief nursing officer came to light. She now manages the clinical oversight in each of Martin Health’s facilities for inpatient and outpatient clinical services. Libby states that her favorite part of the job is serving others. “Serving the community through serving those I lead. It’smotivating to witness the great work of Martin Health System, whether at the bedside, or through the simple pleasures of running into previous patients while running errands with my family.”Community Involvement: Libby has been involved with the March of Dimes for many years and currently sits on the board of directors of the Treasure Coast chapter. She co-chaired the 2015 March for Babies.Personal Life: Libby is married to Brad and they have two children, Nick and Mirra. The Flippos are very family oriented and tend to stay outdoors either on or in the water as much as possible and they love paddle boarding. Libby also likes to read personal development books about the health care industry and anything that will help improve her role as a leader. Having her father as her greatest mentor, he always said, “Keep in mind that it’s not about you, it’s about others and to not be a score keeper in life. Selflessness and staying true to your beliefs and convictions brings success.”

The Martin Health Lifesavers came together in 2002 to host a charity event aimed at helping to provide children on the Treasure Coast with access to the best healthcare possible. Last year, Goombay Bash raised $150,000. These funds assist Martin Health in going the extra mile for our families. Funds have been used to purchase 2014 wish list items for the maternal-child and pediatric departments including swaddler sacks for infants, breast care education for mothers, equipment for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and supports the Mother Baby-Home Care program.

The 14th annual Goombay Bash will be held at 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 18th at Sandsprit Park. Tickets are $100 each and go on sale June 1st. Join us for local eats, libations, live music and more!
