Taking part in international exhibitions is very im-portant for development of tourism industry. Head of the National Tourism Agency, Maia Sidamonid-ze talked to magazine “inSide Georgia” about the Agency’s work in this field.National Tourism Agency has participated in inter-national exhibitions since 2004 and every year it has over 13-15 exhibitions on its calendar.The main goal of participating in these exhibitions is to increase Georgia’s touristic awareness on in-ternational market. These exhibitions help promoting Georgia’s tour-istic potential among tourists and companies op-erating in the industry, such as tour-operators, and get them interested in traveling to Georgia.The exhibitions are one of the most important in-struments in marketing communication.National Tourism Agency has taken part in more than 100 exhibitions since 2004.

Magazine “inSide Georgia” has visited company “Sarajishvili”. The main technologist of the company, Mr. Davit Abzianidze talked to us about history of the company and how to consume a cognac:

Davit Sarajishvili was educated in Europe, Germany but learned cognac and wine-making technology in France.

After coming back to Georgia he founded his first company in 1884, which produced first cognac made with a classic technology. Then he made a web of such manufacturers in Russian Empire, that’s why he’s known as the founder of this technology.

The reason of Sarajishvili being interested in cognac was that this is an original drink made of special species of grapes. In Georgia, as you know, are more than 500 species.

Cognac is special with brilliant, limpid and pleasant golden colors and attracts the consumers with its outward.

Cognac is not a “table drink”, it is a classic “apéritif” or “digestif”, which means we should drink it before or after dinner. Cognac is not a product of much consumption.

What should we drink a cognac with? Frenchmen acknowledge so-called four C – cognac, Cigar, Chocolate and Coffee. This is the classic suit of cognac.

Besides some jubilee series, company “Sarajishvili” offers some exclusive products to its consumers, among which 100-year-old cognac, which was made of alcohol distilled by Davit Sarajishvili should be denoted. It was produced for 155-th anniversary of him. The drink is bottled in “Moser’s” expensive bottle of a very exquisite design. The cognac has become a winner Grand Prix on many international tastings.

The outward of company’s production, its exclusiveness and special elegance is a merit of brand-manager of the company, designer Archil Gogelia.

The actuality of brand is permanently getting bigger. The company not only preserved its quality but also didn’t leg behind the time during its long history.

Founded in 2003, “GMC Group” is the first company managing chain of restaurants. The Company history began when “Dzveli Sakhli” restaurant was opened in 2001, giving also birth to foundation of “GMC Group”. After that “Matreshka” and the first Japanese restaurant in Georgia – “Tokyo” was opened.

The company is planning a diverse menu for fasting in 2011. Some promo-actions are planned too. Another important innovation at “Shemoikhede Genatsvale” is a kids’ menu, orientated on healthy food. Playing corner was made for children at Vake’s branch and it will be made in other restaurant too.

Some changes took place in complex “Kalakuri”. The European restaurant on the second floor of the complex, became “Kalakuri” (Georgian “City Style”), such was a demand of customers.

For the same reason there is no limit in menu of the “Lounge Bar”, which is located on the third floor of the complex.

“GMC Group” has made some important innovations for its customers at “Kalakuri” by introducing Italian menu. The company has invited an Italian chef from Rome.

The number of private events at “Kalakuri” increased during the last four months. The company offers minimum one event every season. As it was “Fall In Love” party in autumn, “Broadway Party” in winter and “Hangover Party” after for New Year’s occasions, “GMC Group” made a “Bronze Party”.

“GMC Group” plan opening event of the terrace at “Dzveli Sakhli” this spring. An individual menu will be introduced then with a new European line in Georgian kitchen. It means that the menu will not be proportional, but individually made for customers. This is a serious innovation in Georgian restaurant business.

The history of the Company began in 19th century, when Antimoz Chkhaidze, the ancestor of the owners of the Company “Askaneli Brothers” and the initiator of the family business found the cellar in Askana village, the picturesque place in Guria (Western Georgia). “Askaneli Brothers” is being developed after its foundation and we never stop after some achievements. We have an ambition to present our company on more and more markets and the demands on our production are increasing from year to year and this is a big stimulation for us. Our company has made a rebranding; that we think will make more actual the consumption of our production. We have not only traditional Georgian, but also European aromas and we are planning to realize such initiatives. We want to preserve our quality and increase the number of the sales. Investment has a special meaning in a develop-ment of the economy in a country. Many invest-ments were made in Georgia during last years. Keti Bochorishvili, the director of National Invest-ment Agency, talked to magazine “inSide Georgia” about the work made, strategies and the future plans of the agency:

The main goal of National Investment Agency in 2011 is to identify potential investors and make them interested in special projects. The agency is planning to make a base of the potential investors. There will be made 30 projects by us and we’ll try to make them financed according to this base. The agency is going to collaborate with many interna-tional financial institutions and will do its best to make them interested in.

The businessman coming to our country should be able to get information he needs every time.

To promote the export National Investment Agen-cy has worked out two projects. The website www.exports.ge will start working in 2011. There will be published a needful information for the local busi-nessmen. Among them are some trade regimes and standards in different countries. So it will help the businessmen to decide easily where to export their production. The National Investment Agency is also working on another website www.tradewithgeorgia.org. There will be made a cata-logue of Georgian production and the agency will try to make this website popular abroad and show

The government of Georgia is trying to increase Georgia’s awareness in the whole world with the visits of business delegations and make the in-vestors interested in investing in this country by offering the best environment for business. The country has ameliorated its position in many ways: according to TI (Transport International) Georgia took the first place (in Post-Soviet area except the Baltic countries) as a fighter with cor-ruption. Heritage International placed Georgia as 26th between 183 countries for a free econom-ics. It has to be noticed that in spite of economic crisis, with a help of liberal economic policy, the country could successfully overcome economical difficulties and there was 6.7% economic growth in Georgia in the first half a year 2010. So this ratings raised Georgia’s awareness quite much.

The World’s Bank and an International Financial Corporation made a research “Doing Business 2011”, according to it with the reforms in a busi-ness regulation which took place in Georgia after 2005 Georgia became the first among 174 coun-tries and took 12th place between 183 countries in the rating of ease doing business countries.

Economic turbulence dictates business planning cycles and initiatives to boost profitability amongst private businesses

Latest research from Grant Thornton International Business Report offers new insight about how far into the future private businesses plan. The most common planning period is 1-3 years, favoured by 49% of business globally. In Georgia 39% of Georgian businesses participating in the survey also have the same planning cycle. Of business following a 1-3 year planning cycle, the highest proportions were in Denmark (64%), followed by New Zealand and the United Kingdom (both 60%) and India and Greece (both 59%). Businesses in China are the longest term planners with 44% of businesses planning more than three years ahead.

Grant Thornton’s experience with many of the pri-vate companies in Georgia shows that 3 years is the most common planning period. Usually busi-nesses plan up to 3 years in our country. This is quite justifiable taking into account the economic instability. The global economic downturn is also challenging the formal planning and making it more and more flexible to be able to respond to arising difficulties. However, having a short-term operational plan does not eliminate the need for having a long-term strategic plan. The challenges in the short-term perspective are easier to over-come if the business has clear vision of its long-term plan.

Short term planning is favoured by 21% of busi-nesses globally and is especially common in Latin America, with businesses using a planning cycle of less than 12 months. Georgia, with 35% of busi-ness adopting this approach, is also well above the global average of 21%. It is noteworthy that fi-nancial services sector is where businesses make the longest plans.

The International Business Report also reveals that product innovation is seen as the most suc-cessful initiative for boosting profitability. When businesses were asked to identify the initiative that helped profitability most, 20% cited innova-tion followed by cost cutting (18%) and pricing strategy (13%). These indicators almost coincide with the responses of Georgia businesses, with the exception of cost cutting mentioned by only 7% of companies.

He was born in Tbilisi, on 25 August 1930. He became known during the Soviet Union for his “sad comedies”.

Danelia graduated from Moscow Architecture Institute and worked as an architect. In 1956, he entered the Higher Director’s Courses at “MosFilm” Studio.

Giorgi Danelia is author or co-author of scripts to most of his films; He also wrote scripts for films by other directors, among which are “Gentlemen of Fortune” (1972), “Frenchman” (1988) with Sergei Bodrov and “Hello from Charlie the Trumpet Player” (1998) with Sergei Dernov.

“If you made people listen to low quality music all the time, it will leave its mark, because music has a big influence on a person, but time places everything and every singer has his own listeners in our country”.

Lela Tsurtsumia’s first steps on a scene were made in her early ages, when she was five years old and brought to “Youngsters Palace” to Mrs. Shura Janelidze. As Mrs. Lela says, for that time she already knew that she wanted to be on the stage . Wile studying at “Youngsters Center” she was singing in different choirs. Then she continued studying at “Scene Art College” where was placed on the 3rd course at the faculty of singing. Lela Tsurtsumia continued her studies at the Theater University on a faculty of Musical Comedy and after graduating she went to 2 years postgraduate studies to Tsistsino Tsitskishvili.

The creative success of the singer started from 1996. She sang at restaurant “Europe” with a band and had mini-concerts everyday for almost 3 years. That was a period when composers of a new generation were coming.

She went to Israel for the first time in 1997 and after a hard work became loved by local listeners and she gave her first concert in Tel-Aviv theatre “Noga” in 2005 and the hall was full. The first album the singer released in Israel also.

There were many contradictions too... “Many concerts and evenings were made, but I was never taking part in them, to say honestly, I couldn’t ask anyone for help, but If I did it, I was sent back with regrets in some different forms”...

Basa Potskhishvili filmed a video on song “Gikharoden” and right after that Lela Tsutsumia was on TV often. Then the concert named “The best 20 songs of 20th Century” was made where Vaja Azarashvili’s song “All My Life” was sang with a new interpretation by Lela Tsurtsumia. Then it was followed by Rusa Morchiladze’s “Dream”, duet with Achiko Meparidze and so on. It was a period when the taste of Georgian public started changing, changed demands “I wanted to offer something new to people and I have started working for my first solo-concert which was performed in Tbilisi Concert Hall (Event Hall) on October 25th, in 2000. It was the first show with costumes, there wasn’t comp ‘ere. The concert wasn’t commercial for that

Love story of director Dato Imedashvili and his wife, Ani started and developed quickly for about four years ago and they made a decision of get-ting married after a short time of acquaintance. “It was impossible for me to understand before; when people were saying that they fell in love at first sight. It seemed funny for me” – says Ani smiling, (she was the first who moved to the new apart-ment of Dato, even before him).Their life is full of surprises and they still live like boyfriend and girl-friend and cohabitation hasn’t disappointed them like it happens in lives of many people.

Ani was always with Dato while filming and she could often avoid actors from anger of the director, so she easily won their hearts.

It wasn’t easy for the couple to work together (“City of Dream”), and the filming group struggled to have her verified on role, because the director was against it. Ani and Dato think that there is no universal recipe of happiness. You shouldn’t make some artificial problems, openness is necessary and a couple should divide their functions in a right way as much as it’s possible. Dato thinks, that a woman should make a warm atmosphere at home and man should resist the main questions – “I can’t imagine a “leader woman” with me as “my wife” she’s less interesting for me, but generally I can be interested in her just as a business partner.

Ani thinks that each family has its own “key” of happiness and there is no definite recipe, but adds that making a decision of getting married is more difficult in young ages. “I’ll say to the readers that love is a main axis of everything – muse, every-thing spins around it, so love each other and be happy!”

Since 1998, Eastern Promotion has promoted in the Caucasus region notable and highly celebrated musicians. This time the company has invited Jamaican musician Alexander Monty. His concert took place at Tbilisi Event Hall.Alexander maintains an active touring schedule, from intimate jazz clubs to concert halls and jazz festivals around the globe. His collaborations span multiple genres, styles, and generations. His projects have been as varied as assisting Natalie Cole in her tribute album to her father, in 1991 (the resulting album, Unforgettable, won seven Grammy awards), performing George Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue” at the Verbier Festival in Switzerland, and recording the piano track for the movie soundtrack of Clint Eastwood’s Bird, a movie about life of jazz titan Charlie Parker.

In Hal Leonard’s 2005 book The Fifty Greatest Jazz Piano Players of All Time, Alexander was listed among the top five Jazz pianists of all time. Alexander Monty has recorded over 60 albums.
