Practices at the Intramural Field are open to the public, and there are select donor events taking place each week culminating with the Spring Showcase and Wooden Athletic Fund Appreciation Day at Drake Stadium on Saturday, April 29. Here are some of the NCAA rules to explain why spring football practice is conducted the way it is: • Teams are allowed 15 practice sessions that must take place within 34 consecutive calendar days. • The Spring Showcase counts as one of the 15 practice sessions. • Only 12 of the practice sessions may involve contact, with no contact allowed in the first two sessions. • Of the 12 contact practices, eight may involve tackling. • No more than three of the tackling sessions can be devoted primarily to 11-on-11 scrimmages. • During the weeks of spring practice, players are limited to a maximum of four hours per day and 20 hours per week of athletic activity. During these sessions and at the Spring Showcase, you may notice prospective student-athletes (“prospects” or “recruits”) in attendance, and they will be viewing practices from a separated area. Please remember the following important NCAA restriction: As boosters of UCLA Athletics, you are not permitted to have any contact or interaction with UCLA prospects. This restriction applies to the UCLA campus and also to those prospects who have signed a National Letter of Intent. Whether on-campus or off, please leave recruiting and contact with recruits to our UCLA Coaches. Thank you. Questions about the above or any other NCAA rules? BENEFIT OF THE MONTH “Being at UCLA has been a true blessing. The opportunity given to further my academic and athletic career is something I am extremely thankful and grateful for. With this institution being one of the most competitive in the world, words are a mere description of what it feels like to represent such a distinctive University. There is no doubt that these remarkable experiences I have had during my time here would not be accomplished without the help of donors and supporters. I am extremely grateful to you for this experience that most only dream of.” Forever Champions Endowment Opportunities There are many ways of giving to UCLA Athletics, one of which is the Forever Champions initiative. This program allows a donor to establish an endowment to provide perpetual support for either a student-athlete scholarship or the operations of a specific sport or program. The Forever Champions program is comprised of two types of endowments: Scholarship Endowments and Program Endowments. Additionally, with the UCLA Chancellor’s Centennial Scholars Match program being offered through June 30, 2017, any scholarship endowment donation of $125,000+ will be matched by the UCLA Campus at 50%, which means that 50% will be added to your total endowment fund! Gifts eligible for matching funds can be to establish a new endowment or to add to an existing endowment. • A Scholarship Endowment is applied to student-athlete scholarships, allowing you to create an everlasting endowment directed to the sport of your choice. When you make a scholarship endowment gift starting at $125,000, you automatically earn LIFETIME Wooden Athletic Fund annual membership credit at 5% of your endowed gift amount. For example, if you established an endowment at $125,000, you will receive 5%, or $6,250, annual WAF credit, and so on. Other benefits for Forever Champions endowment donors include being paired with a UCLA student-athlete each academic year in the sport to which the endowment has been directed. Your name will be displayed in the UCLA Athletics Hall of Fame, and you will receive invitations to Scholarship Donor Dinners, exclusive to endowment donors and student-athletes only. • A Program Endowment, once established, is applied to supplement sport-specific budgets, providing much needed support to whichever sport program you choose, which is used at the discretion of the head coach for that program. When you create a Scholarship Endowment or Program Endowment, your name will forever be linked to a championship tradition, while making a direct impact on future generations of UCLA student-athletes and ensuring their futures. If you would like more information regarding the Forever Champions program, please call (310) 206-1952, or [email protected]. WAY OF GIVING 1967 NCAA Championship Team Reunion On March 4, prior to UCLA Men’s Basketball’s last regular season game vs. Washington State, nearly 70 guests attended a reunion of the 1966-67 UCLA Men’s Basketball Championship Team. Held in the Meyer and Renee Luskin Conference Center on campus, team members had the opportunity to get together for dinner, talk about old times, and catch up with one another. Each team member and coach in attendance was presented with a framed, personally inscribed team championship photo from their win in 1967. The team was further honored during halftime of UCLA’s win over the Washington State Cougars, where a standing ovation was given to the team members, assistant coaches, and managers before a sellout crowd that cheered the Bruins on to their 77-68 victory.
