These awards celebrate the efforts of students undertaking TAFE studies in 2016. Many of these students have achieved outstanding results in and out of the classroom and TAFE NSW is thrilled to celebrate their learning success and steps towards jobs, prosperity and brighter futures. Congratulations to Teliah Powell, (Year 12 2016) who was awarded Student of the Year for Certificate III in Animal Studies at Lismore TAFE. Izack the Red After sharing with you last week Cassie Keogh’s achievements in qualifying

as a solicitor, Marshall Brown making the Hockey NSW U15 state team and

Carley and Kurtis Tebecis showing wonderful community spirit, this week we

celebrate another achievement in Izack

Rodda’s representative rugby career.

Izack was in the run on side for the

Queensland Reds last weekend and for

any rugby player this is a landmark

achievement. Izack has already played

for Australia in our national U19 side

amongst a host of other achievements.

Well done Izack! We wish you continuing

success in your endeavours.

Teliah Powell – TAFE Student of the Year The annual TAFE NSW Lismore Awards of Excellence were held at the

experienced consequences for this choice in line with the school’s Student

Welfare & Discipline Policy. They will be supported in their learning around

making better decisions in the future. I would like to thank parents who have

worked with the school to raise their children to better understand responsible

behaviour choices. It takes a community to raise a child and this experience

provides another example of the strength of our community in raising our

young.

Student and Parent Portal The Student and Parent Portal has been up and running now for almost a

year. If you have not already signed up for the portal I encourage you to do

so. If you have lost the information, please feel free to contact me, Yvonne

Sharpe, and I can either send you an email or letter, or I can take you

through the registration process here at school. It does not take long to

register.

Once you are registered, you and your child/ren can check daily notices, the

calendar, timetables (for HS), activities as well as message teachers directly

if you have any questions. We encourage you to check the portal daily. It can

be accessed on your mobile phone, ipad, computer or tablet.

This is a valuable communication tool for our school and has the capacity to

keep your family fully informed on school opportunities and events.

Easter Hat Parade Our Easter Hat Parade this year will follow our last assembly for the term on

Friday 7th April. We would like to remind

parents that egg shells should not be used

for decorations. It is always a colourful

parade and thank everyone in advance for

participating in the preparations for the

parade.

Following the Parade the students will

participate in some activities in class and

then we will be off to the K12 Cross Country. We

look forward to this being a great family day for

the students and a wonderful way to end the term.

Many thanks to parents/carers who attended the Evans River Year 7 –12 Parent/Teacher Interviews on Monday night. This was an opportunity for parents to take a look at current student works on display, enjoy a cuppa and chat to staff about their child/children's school progress.

Thanks to our amazing parents/carers and staff who assisted at last Sunday’s Bunnings BBQ P&C fundraiser. It was a successful event and the school raised over a $1000 towards K-6 resources. Many thanks to Japheth Cooper, Craig Tosomeen, Ross Fry, Will Fisher, Fay Granger, Jan Hobbins, Pippa McGregor, Sandra Paddon,

Jane Young, Ben Fletcher and Cheryl McCarthy for being part of this great fundraising event for our school. Many thanks to Evans Head Fishermans Co-op for their donation of ice.

Evans River K-12 P&C Annual General Meeting When: Monday 20th March from 4:30 pm Where: Evans River School Library Executive positions shall be declared vacant and shall be refilled on the night. We welcome Evans River parents/carers to come along and be part of our school community, it’s an extremely rewarding experience to be part of your child’s education.

There was a great deal of activity down on the school’s Ag farm last week. After many weeks of patiently waiting, Year 8 students were very excited to hold their newly hatched chickens. Whilst Year 8 students had the arduous task of selecting the perfect name for their chickens, primary students paid a visit with Mrs McGeary explaining the incubation process in between cuddles and pats.

Evans River primary students have so far raised $519.00 towards our school fun run! Well done!!! We have only two weeks to go until School Fun-Run is held on the 31st March 17. Hopefully students have been using their student profile pages at schoolfunrun.com.au or filling in their fun run booklet. Please don’t forget you can also order your prizes online this year, go to schoolfunrun.com.au and create your student profile page (if you haven’t already). We’d love some volunteers on the day, if you’re ready to be part of a fun filled morning please contact Kristen. If you can’t help, we’d still love to have you come in, cheer the kids on and create a great day for the community. If you have any fundraising questions, please contact the School Fun-Run team on 0800 733 170 and they will gladly assist!
