This is Sandy. She loves her school, home, neighborhood,

and community.

Sandy is excited each day when she goes

to school to learn and to be with her teacher

and friends.

One day, Sandy overheard two older boys talking about something that really bothered her.

Sandy became very concerned but did not know what to do about it.

Sandy heard the boys talking about hurting some people who they were very angry with. She knew what they were talking about was wrong because

trying to hurt people is a very bad thing to do.

Sandy told her teacher that she had a problem that she did not know how to handle. Mrs. Brown told

Sandy that she would be willing to help ifonly she knew what the problem was.

When Sandy arrived in class, her teacher, Mrs. Brown asked her if anything was wrong because she did not appear to be her normal happy self.

Sandy told Mrs. Brown about the conversation she heard including the boy’s plan to hurt people.

Mrs. Brown told Sandy that she did the right thing by telling her and that she should not worry about

it anymore.

Sandy told Mrs. Brown that kids always say that it is wrong to “snitch” on anyone. Mrs. Brown told Sandy that if anyone was going to be hurt, that

we all should tell someone who can help to keep everyone safe. Children should tell an adult.

Later in the day, Sandy saw the boys who were talking about hurting people in the principal’s

office. She was surprised because they did not treat her any differently. It was like they did not

know that she told an adult about their plan.

We all have the responsibility to keep each other safe. Sandy was safe because the boys did not

know that she told an adult. The people the boyswanted to hurt were safe because Sandy told someone who could do something about it.

Sandy asked Mrs. Brown if the boys knew that she was the one that told about their plan to hurt

people. Mrs. Brown told Sandy,

“No Way!”
