Honestly? We could find no product on the market that met with our ex-

pectations for high quality stainless steel enclosures. Existing enclosures in

stainless steel are still fastened with holes in the enclosure base. The user

is exposed to the risk of leaks and damage to components. However,

there must be something better for the installation of high quality industrial

electronics.

So we started to consider how the situation could be improved, and we

simply went ahead and improved it.

The ROLEC single-channel fastening system - proven a million times over

- which is already in use with our aluminium enclosures, was adopted

for the A2 inoCASE enclosures with four welded screw channels in the

enclosure corners. With the A4 version we opted for separate fastening

channels. Furthermore, unlike lots of other manufacturers, we use a high

performance continuous solid silicone gasket – for perfect leak-tightness.

Extensive corrosion and sealing tests took place in our in-house test centre.

We subsequently had these certified by independent inspection author-

ities.

1.4301/A2 is the most widely used stainless steel alloy in the world.

Internationally, this quality predominantly bears the designation "304".

Meaning top quality even with the standard version of the inoCASE

enclosure range.

1.4404/A4, internationally customarily designated "316L", is even more

resilient. This alloy contains molybdenum for the further enhancement of

corrosion resistance, in particular to chloride and seawater. Applications

in marine areas frequently demand the use of this high alloy type. inoCASE

A4 enclosures have an 'Open Deck' approval as per DNV-GL for this

reason. The coastal atmosphere contains constituents including chloride,

which precipitate on stainless steel parts due to moisture in the air. When

this moisture evaporates, salt is left behind and this becomes concentrated

due to constant deposition. Interesting, parts protected against rain are

at particular risk of corrosion in marine areas because the unavoidable

deposits are neither diluted nor washed away by rain. In addition to the

right alloy, the surface characteristics also have a decisive influence on

the corrosion resistance. Optimum protection in coastal areas is afforded

by clean, bright metallic surfaces that are fully passivated.

ROLEC offers the inoCASE and inoCASE mini with optional electro-

polishing. With this process any surface roughness is electrochemically

removed. This results in a highly polished top surface, microscopically

closed and with a new, seamless passive layer. This not only prevents

corrosion but also decisively improves the appearance of the enclosure.

A2 or A4? The application area decides.
