• Tanzania AIDSRelief operates in four out of 26 regions and have 420 PMTCT sites currently providing PMTCT services
• With the existing sites; it is not cost-effective to staff each PMTCT site with a dedicated SI Staff
• Most of the sites are in remote locations.
• Solution: Needed a quick, effective , low tech solution that will allow for a some level of patient data automation to ensure the transmission of qualitative data within donor designated reporting requirements using the limited resources.

Paper Report SMS
SMS reporting – How?• SMS is received at in-country office on phone
connected to server
SMS reporting – How?• Server performs DQ check against various rules and
responds to sender, if data passes then it is integrated into database. If it fails then user is notified of the discrepancy and can immediately correct and resend.
Data from SMS is stored in SQL Database and cleared from phone
Data can be formatted into XML data for use in other applications or transmitted via GPRS/3G/Other internet
Server replies with confirmation SMS confirming success/failure
User sends formatted report as an SMS
SMS arrives at cost effective cellphone tethered to central
server
Server Application polls phone for incoming SMS
