Background
The Academy

1.
The Humanitarian Leadership Academy is a global learning
initiative set up to facilitate partnerships and collaborative
opportunities to enable people to prepare for and respond
to crises in their own countries.
We are collaborating with local, national, regional and
global organisations, communities and individuals to
develop learning resources and tools. By supporting people
at the grassroots level, we will enable them to be better
prepared for a disaster, respond quicker and to have
increased resilience after a crisis.
The Humanitarian Leadership Academy
5
In the next five years, the Academy is opening ten Academy Centres in targeted locations reaching out to vulnerable communities. The centres will be reaching 40 countries across Africa, Latin America, Asia and Europe.
Each Academy Centre will be reaching out to partners in the region, finding out the needs of communities and establishing ways to create strategic partnerships.
How does it work?
Collaboration is at the heart of meeting a challenge on this scale. We will partner with and facilitate partnership opportunities with the corporate sector, learning professionals, academia, international institutions, governments and NGOs from across the globe to provide learning resources and tools for individuals and organisations. The aim is to build a comprehensive network that reaches people on the ground where the learning tools are most needed.
6
The Academy is built on three defining pillars of Learning,
Knowledge and Innovation. In line with this, the Academy
aims to be a leader and catalyst in innovation within the
humanitarian sector.
A range of areas has been identified where the Academy
has unique strengths, vision, and the drive to deliver learning
and knowledge sharing in new ways. The Academy is a
young, entrepreneurial organisation, and has the flexibility to
experiment in how it delivers programmes, who it supports,
and how it works. Thanks to this flexibility and a genuine
desire to collaborate, the Academy is well positioned to
innovate in the field of learning and develop a culture of
innovation throughout the humanitarian sector.

What are we
looking for?
Specification

2.
The Humanitarian Leadership Academy is in a period of growth, and due to our decentralised approach, we will not have an extensive staff team based in the Global Academy Office (GAO) in the UK.
This means that we will regularly need to engage external collaborators to support Academy initiatives and projects, often at short notice.
As recruiting, vetting and contracting such expertise can take a significant amount of time, the Academy wishes to recruit a pool of partners who are pre-vetted, so that when a suitable assignment comes up they can be identified and contracted in a much shorter timeframe.
