Innovation Oakland is a technology-based approach to neighborhood transformation introducing new ways of thinking about how community assets, public spaces and commercial corridors contribute to the economic prosperity of Oakland. Fueled by state of the art technologies, Innovation Oakland will combine art, design, place making and way finding solutions to create new interactive public destinations for the use and pleasure of residents, employees, students and visitors from around the country and the world.

Understanding the need to maintain a competitive edge in the global economy, cities around the world have begun to embark on such visionary projects such as Chicago’s Millenium Park, Seoul Korea’s Digital Media City, Helsinki Finland’s “Science/ Art Axis” and Zaragoza Spain’s Digital Mile to name a few. Just this past spring Pittsburgh was been named a winner in the second round of IBM's international Smarter Cities Challenge.
