Spiritually Speaking ... with Rev Lori Hisson

Rev LoriMinister and Spiritual Leader

There seems to be a real “buzz” in the air at Unity these days. Do you feel it? We have a fabulous

board and the minister is pretty good too. Our music each month features the fabulous and very talented Emilio Zarris and Pam Gerrand.

And then there is our Unity choir. Bless the choir please. They show up each Sunday morning at 9 a.m. and rehearse.

Bless our wonderful Music Director, Jake Levesque. He is so very talented and such a sweet, gentle spirit. A true joy to work with and a musician who joyfully appreciates each voice that sings. He is generous

with his time, talent and treasure.Recently you have heard three people

share how Unity has transformed their lives. There is an interview in this issue with Michael McDougall (see page 7) who is a treasure for Unity and he might say the feeling is mutual. He shares his Unity experience.

We also can be grateful for the vision we have of sharing a portion of our monthly tithe with a charitable organization in London. The ones we bless are nominated from our congregation by someone who has been spiritually fed by that organization. If you have an organization you would like to nominate, the forms and jar are in the Fellowship Room. Still looking for central location

We have a beautiful meeting space created with much love and we are on the lookout for a more central space. Even though I tell people, “Unity is worth the drive”, many Londoners don’t seem to want to drive from the north end clear to the south end of the city. For those that do drive from the north and even

further, thank you! We have so many volunteers that

I am sure other churches might be envious. We appreciate you if you are one of them. Unity cannot run without you. And thanks to Mary Hagan, our Volunteer Co-ordinator, who grew the idea of an Appreciation Sunday. Each month we are celebrating a particular ministry team.

For May that will be our Innerspark Newsletter team (See page 8), and for June our Prayer Chaplains, Energy Healers and Prayer Angels.Celebrate moms and dads

You can tell my heart is filled with gratitude. That brings me to moms and dads. In May, we celebrate our moms, and in June, our dads. They gave us life, imparted their wisdom in the only way they knew how just like we impart our wisdom to our children. Celebrate them in the way that is right and perfect for you.

I will be away from the church for three weeks holidays in May which works out to four Sundays. Bob and I will be travelling to our daughter Jenn’s wedding. Pat Moauro, our Licensed Unity Teacher, will be giving four lessons from the book, Discover the Power Within. You won’t want to miss those.

If you love and support your minister you will attend in droves each week and be present when I cannot be. I take your love and good wishes with me and I hold you all in my heart.

New Board President wants to take Unity to the community

The President’s Report ... Larry Breau

L a r r y

Larry BreauBoard President

Hello to all – my first duty as President of the 2012 Board of Directors is to introduce

myself. My name is Larry Breau, grateful husband of Kathy Breau, and I have been a Unitic since the fall of 1998.

My spiritual journey started at Unity of Panama City, Florida when Kathy dragged me and my sickly soul to

my first feed of spirituality; hence my gratitude.

I was overwhelmed immediately with a sense of belonging and a feeling of “being home”. I was pretty choked up through most of that first service - then totally lost all composure when the congregation circled up, prayed the Prayer for Protection and sang the Peace Song.

These feelings were new to me – never before experienced in any church that I had attended in the past. I certainly understand when a newcomer has red, puffy eyes and a huge smile at the end of their first Unity experience.

I have had the pleasure of serving on the Board of Directors of my first Unity Home. I bring my talents and experience to Unity of London to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to grow spiritually.

Unity of London is a great spiritual home; our minister Rev Lori has a wonderful message each week, our Music Director, Jake supports us with his wonderful talent, and so many members volunteer their time and talents to ensure a comfortable experience for us all.

One of my goals as new Board President is to get the “UNITY” name out to the masses in our local community. I truly believe that there are thousands of people looking for what our spiritual home offers. They just don’t know where to find it!

Together we can transform lives. If you don’t know me, please seek

me out in the next few weeks and say hello. If you have an idea on how to spread the word of Unity I would love to hear it.

Megan Daigneault

Unity of London welcomes Megan Daigneault, our new Acting Office Administrator.

She has replaced Roseanne Perry, who has taken a full-time job at Western University.

Megan works in the office from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and on Sundays from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.

She is a delight to work with and we are grateful to her for sharing her skills with us here at Unity.

Say hello to Megan when you see her.- Rev Lori

Welcome Megan!

Prosperity Report ... with Jack Van Diepen, Treasurer

Jack Van DiepenTreasurer

Spring is in the air and it’s a time for new ideas to blossom and grow into a new, bountiful

harvest. I have been a Member at Large on the Board of Directors of Unity of London for one year now.

I have moved up to Treasurer for this year. It’s a new learning curve for me, but I am willing to learn. Being involved in our Board has taught me a lot about how a church operates.

I can tell you, it can be hard to run things smoothly, and it takes a lot of help to balance the books. Fortunately, we have the people to support our church and who are willing to help out when needed.

We have some great fundraising ideas and they are working for us, such as the February Blues dance, with our “Lakeside” band and auction, which created a nice profit. Thank you to all who helped.

Now we are working on the lottery for a vacation with a free condo in Mexico. The tickets are selling well. I’m sure everybody would like

a two-week vacation with $1,000 in spending money! With only 400 tickets, there is a great chance for winning!

The 12-week 4T Prosperity program started recently. All the best to the 10 people who are participating in the program! They will learn a great deal about trusting the universe in providing abundance in many ways.

We have been blessed again this year with a great contribution of $30,000 from a generous benefactor. Your Board will do its best to use the

funds wisely and responsibly.I am also involved in the Property

Committee, which is keeping an eye out for an even better location than we have now. If you know of one, please let us know.

With all your help we can have a prosperous Unity of London and feel like you are home. With Rev. Lori’s inspirational talks you will have a GREAT week.

All is well,

This will be an exciting day as we draw the winner for our third annual Mexican Condo Lottery. The winner receives two weeks at a fabulous condo in Mexico as well as $1,000 cash.

Thanks to Tom Droog, the condo owner, for his generous donation to Unity.

If you haven’t picked up an envelope of tickets to sell, please do so. There are 10 tickets in an envelope. We need everyone’s help to sell the 400 tickets. The chance of winning is 1 in 400. Great odds!

Thanks to everyone who has sold tickets. We apprecite it!

Michael McDougall finds a loving spiritual home at Unity

Bookkeeper for Unity of London

Michael McDougall poses with Lola Hache, a friend who kept inviting him to Unity for a year before he started attending last fall.

You will love our subs and wraps!

4026 Meadowbrook Dr. SouthUnit # 115 - London, ONPhone: (519) 652.8294Email: [email protected]: www.abesubs.ca

- Pat Moauro

For more than a year Michael Mc-Dougall resisted coming out to Uni-ty of London. But once he walked through the doors last October and heard the service, he soon knew this was his new spiritual home.

A friend, Lola Hache, had encour-aged Michael, 44, to attend his first Unity service. Michael recalls Lola saying, “You gotta come to Unity, man!”

Michael, who had been separated from his wife for less than a year, said that he finally agreed to attend a Unity service with Lola after his “anxiety was becoming overwhelming. It was time to reach out to a community for some support.”

His first impression of his first Unity service?

“I had entered a realm of peace,” Mi-chael said. “By the second song, my emotions released and tears flowed.”

Rev. Ros Mariconda, a Unity min-ister, who was giving the lesson that Sunday, “gave me a hug.” As a result of Rev. Ros' lesson about overcoming obstacles with our mind, Michael said her message inspired him to write a song with a similar theme.

Michael said he had “always had a spiritual curiosity.” He also started at-tending the Unity Men's Group meet-ings on the second and fourth Sat-urdays of the month. He found the environment of sharing with other men

encouraging and supportive. Both the Men's Group and the Sun-

day services have blessed him, he said, adding “they both have helped me to be consciously aware that peace is consciously available. It felt like I came home.”

Michael said Unity teachings have “raised my awareness of the benefits of giving. It's brought me a higher lev-el of peace, reduced my anxiety, and given me a sense of connectedness to the community and ultimately the universe.”

Michael has three children, Benja-min, 15; Andrew, 13, and Sarah, 12. Sarah attends meetings at Unity with her dad, and takes part in the Chil-

dren's Ministry. “She loves it here and is very active, helping Bob (Hisson, in charge of Greeters and Ushers).”

Along with nine others, Michael is currently taking the 12-week 4T Pros-perity course at Unity of London.

“I'm open and willing to learn,” he said, adding “I already have a strong sense of abundance around me. I hope the 4T will help me discover what I really want in life, and discover my purpose in life.”

Since first coming to Unity, Michael has already introduced two other friends, a man and a woman, to Unity. The man, he said, is finding the Men's Group meetings and the Sunday ser-vice “both really beneficial.”

Michael praised our minister, Rev Lori Hisson, for her weekly talks that “always inspire a deeper awareness of self.”

Michael owns a plumbing and heat-ing company called One Hundred Degrees. He also has been a song-writer, singer and guitar and piano player for 30 years. As he continues his enthusiastic participation here at Unity of London, Michael said one of his goals is: “I aspire to write songs for Unity.”

Not bad for a young man who little more than seven months ago had resisted coming out to an unfamiliar spiritual community called Unity.

As Editor, Cathy solicits and edits the copy and Pat lays out the newsletter and creates ads as requested. They both are very dedicated. Of note is the fact that not once since Cathy took on this task has the newsletter been late. Yeah!

Cathy and Pat... we love you, we appreciate you and behold the light of God expressing as you. Thanks so much! Remember, on the first Sunday of the month we will honor them during the service; you will have the chance then and all of May to write them a note of appreciation. Please hang your note on our Appreciation Tree in the Fellowship Room.

Pat MoauroLayout and Design Our Prayer Chaplains train extensively to pray with our congregation. We don’t

want anyone to leave the service Sunday morning with a heavy heart and we offer our Chaplain’s prayer service to you. They also hold our Sunday service in prayer for the highest and best to unfold for all of us. They meet once a month for prayer support and education and are in service one or two Sundays a month for prayer. Our Prayer Chaplains are Mary, Wilda, Pat, Mary L., Connie, Chuck, Suzanne, Teresa, and Chaplain candidates- in-training Sylvia and Pauline.

Our volunteers who offer Healing Energy do so after the service. You are invited to sit in a chair in the corner by the tree and receive this energy as a healing agent. Our energy healers are our Prayer Chaplains along with Gwen and Elise. Lastly, we honor our Prayer Angels who have a different role than our Chaplains. They take the names out of the prayer box and send them on to Silent Unity. Your prayer requests are prayed over for 30 days, both here and at Silent Unity. Our Prayer Angels are Sylvia S., Gary, Rev Lori, Mary B., Joanne, Suzanne, Eleanor, and Linda.

In June, we are appreciating our Prayer Chaplains, Healing Energy people, and Prayer Angels

“One of the keys to spiritual growth is loving service. In Eastern traditions, karma yoga, or the path of “right action,” is a method by which one can achieve enlightenment.

Like the law of giving, the desire to serve is based on the awareness that we are all part of one human family. I cannot feel at peace if my brother or sister is in pain....when we serve others, we are also serving ourselves.”

‘You are brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous’From the Volunteer Ministry Coordinator ... Mary Hagan

Mary HaganVolunteer Ministry Coordinator

As I write this article, I am reminded of the words

Marianne Williamson wrote in her book, “A Return to Love”:

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond mea-sure. It is our light, not our dark-ness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be bril-liant, gorgeous, talented, and fabu-lous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in ev-

eryone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically lib-erates others.”

Do you know how brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous you truly are? We, here at Unity, see you, appreciate you, and are grateful for you.

You are not alone.

In May, meetings will be held May 11 and 25. June meetings will be held June 9 and 23.

All men are welcome; they do not have to be members of Unity to attend. Bob Hisson describes

the group as, “a great place where men are encouraged to share their feelings in a safe environment. In addition, there is usually a topic of discussion that leads to further spir-itual development.”

All the men who attend agree that “what is shared here, stays here,” ensuring confidentiality.
