2 Inkjet Training Services

Operator training. The key to leveraging your EFI printer investment.At EFI™, we believe that operator training is essential for obtaining the skills necessary to optimize your EFI printer’s performance and capabilities, especially in the case of new product purchases and integration. Training and skill development maximizes the return on investment of your EFI Wide Format and VUTEk® inkjet printers, and Fiery® proServer or Fiery XF RIP. Our in-house, on-site and web-based training curriculum provides detailed, hands-on exploration of topics that help your operators become the crucial link between your EFI technology and outstanding profitability.

EFI Training. Which Training Is Right For You?Training and skill development is both a short- and long-term journey. Defining your experience level with digital printing and, more specifically, EFI inkjet printing systems, dictates where you begin the journey. We have outlined the four most common categories of EFI inkjet customers. Please review these categories to better understand where you and your team rank on the training and skill development spectrum.

1. Basic: Customers new to digital printing and EFI inkjet systems.

If this is your first purchase of an EFI inkjet system, a training foundation must be built around basic systems operation and maintenance, basic RIP and color theory, and systems operation skills to ensure that your team possesses the basic knowledge to successfully integrate the system into your production environment and create sellable output. The typical time frame for this training is 3 weeks (longer if skill development has not reached a level to independently operate the system in a production environment), most of which occurs after the system is setup. In some cases, completing either web-based training or classroom training can reduce the time frame.

2. Advanced: Customers with expert digital printing skills but new to EFI inkjet systems.

Your expertise in digital printing is a cornerstone of your training foundation. You will still need to secure basic systems operation and maintenance, basic Fiery XF RIP (available via WebEx for experienced RIP users) and systems operation skills to ensure that your team can successfully integrate the system into your production environment and create sellable output. The typical time frame for this training is ~1- 2 weeks (depending on your team’s experience and complexity of the system), most of which occurs after the system is setup. Again, in many cases, completing either web-based training or classroom training can reduce the time frame.

3. Master: Customers with master digital printing skills, significant EFI inkjet systems experience (including Fiery XF RIP), but new to the EFI inkjet system platform being purchased.

Although your team possesses master digital printing and RIP software skills, we recommend the operations/maintenance training, as well as training covering the basic knowledge required to successfully integrate the system into your production environment and to create sellable output. The typical time frame for this training is ~1 week (depending on your team’s experience and complexity of the system), most occurring after the system is setup.

4. Grand Master: Customers with master digital printing skills and significant experience (including Fiery XF RIP) on the EFI inkjet system being purchased.

In this situation, your team will need minimal training and skill development. EFI Inkjet will still provide refresher operations/maintenance training. The typical time frame for this training is 1-2 days (depending on your team’s experience and complexity of the system), most occurring after the system is setup. Alternatively, completing web-based training will eliminate the need for any onsite training.

Self-service Training

To maximize uptime and reliability of EFI inkjet systems, Self-service Training is available. The Self-service Training is outlined on page 5 and is available for all customers who have successfully completed the training outlined above.

EFI Training Policies.

Training Seats.

Two training seats are available to each customer after purchasing a new EFI VUTEk printer. These seats are valid for one year from the printer installation date. After this date, the seats expire. These seats can be redeemed for training (e.g., Operator Certification, Self-service Training, etc.) at an EFI facility or on-site at your business. Please see the Training Service Offerings charts at the end of the brochure for details.

Enhanced Service Program (ESP).

Customers with a current ESP contract are entitled to one additional training seat per year. Operators can advance in skill level and certifications to operate systems at Master level. For additional ESP information, contact Cassie Smith at [email protected].

Training Expenses.

EFI is not responsible for any travel expenses related to training at an EFI facility, including flights, ground transportation, meals and hotel accommodations.

Certification.

Upon successful completion of an EFI Operator Training Program, a certificate will be provided.

Cancellation. We require at least two weeks notice prior to the course start date for any cancellations. If a cancellation is made less than two weeks prior to the course start date, a penalty of the loss of one training seat or additional charges will be applied. This policy is necessary in order to maximize the limited seating capacity available for each training course. Cancellations made with less than the required two weeks notice make it difficult for replacement students to reasonably schedule and economically plan for travel.

Course Descriptions.

Required/Recommended Training:

Operator Certification. (Required for Basic, Advanced and Master)

This course provides comprehensive instruction regarding printer operation and Fiery XF RIP software. By providing a hands-on environment, attendees obtain a better grasp of day-to-day printer and RIP software operations. Operators learn to setup, operate and provide basic maintenance for the printer, while getting specific training on Fiery XF RIP functionality. Other covered areas include troubleshooting image and print quality, constructing effective workflows, and developing best practices for production. It is strongly recommended that the attendee have prior experience working with digital imaging software as well as possess some knowledge of digital printer operations.

Color Management (Required for Basic; recommended for Advanced customers with no Fiery XF RIP experience)

This course provides a thorough review of the Fiery XF RIP software functions as they apply to color management and ICC profiling. By providing a hands-on environment, attendees develop the advanced RIP software skills necessary to create their own printer profiles. Attendees are shown in-depth concepts regarding RIP setup, options and utilization of the color management processes. Also discussed is the importance of using ICC profiles, troubleshooting image and print quality, effective workflows, and best practices for production. It is strongly recommended that attendees have prior experience with the operation of EFI inkjet printers and RIP software, and an understanding of the Fiery XF RIP and pre-press software knowledge.

4 Inkjet Training Services

EFI Fiery XF Color & Workflow Services (Required for Basic and Advanced customers)

These customized on-site training and implementation services focus on the Fiery XF RIP for your EFI Wide Format or EFI VUTEk superwide format printer. A Fiery expert travels to your location to perform training and implementation services that are customized to accommodate your workflow. This service is critical to ensure that your operators are trained to produce the best possible quality output, so that you can stay competitive and maximize your return on investment quickly.

The 3-day Color & Workflow on-site training includes:

• Fiery XF software installation and configuration

• Digital workflow and file preparation

• Fiery XF software operations and workflow management

• Fiery XF color management, color calibration and color profiling

• Techniques for profiling backlit and white ink

• Custom color profile creation with hands-on practice and workflow implementation

The 5-day G7 Master Color & Workflow on-site training includes:

• All topics from the 3-day training

• Color optimization with the highest level of color accuracy and fidelity

• Color quality control with verification

• Techniques for profiling advanced gloss control for VUTEk HS100 Pro

• G7 methodology and printing standards

• Optional G7 qualification (additional IDEAlliance fees will apply)

The 5-day on-site workshop is required to all new VUTEk HS100 Pro customers and anyone else who wants to push the envelope on color.

Additional days and online 1:1 workshops are available to those who are familiar with the Fiery XF RIP and require a shorter customized offering.

Optional Training:

Self-service Training (Optional for all customers who have mastered system operations and maintenance)

This course prepares the experienced operator to be much more self sufficient regarding printer theory and printer repair. Training is specifically designed to be hands-on. Each attendee works directly on the printer, performing tasks such as board removal, jet pack replacement, software optimization and other essential procedures. A portion of the classroom time is spent examining the components of the printer sub-systems (power, ink, vacuum, etc.) and how they operate together. When this training is complete, the operator will be able to comprehend and adjust many printer settings and work with remote support in order to perform minor printer repairs. It is required that prior to this training the attendee have experience with the operation of EFI Inkjet printers and an understanding of daily printer maintenance, along with basic electro-mechanical skills and associated repair and maintenance tools.

Fiery XF Remote Training (Strongly recommended for Advanced and Master customers)

For EFI customers in North America, we offer the option to participate in 4- and/or 8-hour Fiery XF Remote Training sessions. With a selection of introductory, intermediate, profiling and software options courses to choose from, you can customize the online training to suit your specific needs.
