Kangra Coal (Pty) Ltd proposes to expand their current mining
operations facility at the Savmore Colliery, located approximately 15 km
west of Driefontein near Piet Retief in Mpumalanga. The proposed
expansion involves:
• The new Central Discard Dump at Maquasa East operations;
• The Maquasa West Extension (MWE) underground workings;
• The new Adit 5 to access the MWE underground workings; and
• An overland conveyor and service road connecting Adit 5 with the
existing Maquasa West operational area.
The development and operation of this infrastructure requires:
1. Environmental Authorisation in terms of the National Environmental
Management Act (Act 107 of 1998), as amended (with the Department
of Mineral Resources (DMR) as the Competent Authority); and
2. Section 102 Amendment application for Consolidated MR133 in
terms of the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act (Act
No. 28 of 2002), as amended.
(Please note that separate consultations for each of these proposed
activities have previously been undertaken. However, it is required that
further consultation be undertaken for this Section 102 Amendment and
EMPr Consolidation process.)
Environmental Resource Management Southern Africa (Pty) Ltd (ERM)
has been appointed as the Independent Environmental Assessment
Practitioner (EAP) to undertake these processes as per the

• The new Central Discard Dump at Maquasa East operations;
• The Maquasa West Extension (MWE) underground workings;
• The new Adit 5 to access the MWE underground workings; and
• An overland conveyor and service road connecting Adit 5 with the existing Maquasa West operational area.
The development and operation of this infrastructure requires:
1. Environmental Authorisation in terms of the National Environmental Management Act (Act 107 of 1998), as
amended (with the Department of Mineral Resources (DMR) as the Competent Authority); and
2. Section 102 Amendment application for Consolidated MR133 in terms of the Mineral and Petroleum Resources

Kangra Coal (Pty) Ltd proposes to expand their current mining
operations facility at the Savmore Colliery, located approximately 15 km
west of Driefontein near Piet Retief in Mpumalanga. The proposed
expansion involves:
• The new Central Discard Dump at Maquasa East operations;
• The Maquasa West Extension (MWE) underground workings;
• The new Adit 5 to access the MWE underground workings; and
• An overland conveyor and service road connecting Adit 5 with the
existing Maquasa West operational area.
The development and operation of this infrastructure requires:
1. Environmental Authorisation in terms of the National Environmental
Management Act (Act 107 of 1998), as amended (with the Department
of Mineral Resources (DMR) as the Competent Authority); and
2. Section 102 Amendment application for Consolidated MR133 in
terms of the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act (Act
No. 28 of 2002), as amended.
Environmental Resource Management Southern Africa (Pty) Ltd (ERM)
has been appointed as the Independent Environmental Assessment
Practitioner (EAP) to undertake these processes as per the
aforementioned regulations.
