compare up to 3 schools at a time) Apply to school, receive degree plan (No Degree Plan is

needed for CCAF) Now time to create education goal, E-degree plan, and

upload degree plan – evaluated or non-evaluated

STEP 1 – DECIDE ON GOAL

When considering an academic institution, Airmen must consider the institution's accreditation, policy on transfer credits (into and out of the institution), cost to AF and member, etc. Mil TA will not be approved until goal and degree plan are submitted and approved in AFVEC. No more than 6 semester hours (or equivalent) will be authorized without a school evaluated degree plan.

Helpful Tips: Funding Request

Give Yourself Time: Be aware of the 45-7 day window for submissions. It’s your education. It’s your responsibility to get it submitted on time.

Double Check Your Work. Make sure to review before you sign and send. Make sure of the following: Did I choose the correct Goal? (CCAF vs. Bachelor’s goal) Are the TERM dates are correct? Class start date vs. Term start date. Course Codes. Should read as ENG 101. Check your degree plan. Verify the Course Cost Information: SH vs QH, credit cost, total cost…etc.

Make sure you’re taking the correct courses. Ask yourself if the course is on your degree plan. Remember, there is a lifetime cap with credits so make sure you’re taking the right courses that are approved for your degree program.

Check to ensure your supervisor is listed correctly and that they are present to review/approve.

Members must apply no sooner than 45 days and no later than 7 days before the class start date. MilTA does not pay for courses already passed regardless of how the courses were paid or when they were taken. Military TA cannot be used for multiple degrees at the same level The Education office reviews MilTA documents for quality controls and may disapprove if, in our professional judgment, we believe the course load is detrimental to the Airmen or Air Force.

GPA is calculated after 15 semester hours for undergraduate and 9 semester hours for graduate courses. ALL MilTA courses are calculated whether the government is reimbursed or not and there are no waivers. Students need to use other funding sources to bring up GPA to meet minimum standards. Course taken with other funding sources to increase GPA are not eligible for retroactive MilTA payment. GPA calculation is separate from fiscal liability and once a grade is earned it remains part of your TA academic record. Continued TA use is based on a member's academic performance which can only be accurately reflected by factoring all of the member's coursework.
