NATURAL REGIONS OF COLOMBIA

The natural regions of Colombia

are territorial divisions

made from heterogeneous

characteristics in terms of relief,

climate , vegetation, and soil

types . Because of the great

diversity of climate and relief , in

Colombia these regional

differences are defined by a

series of uncertain factors suchas the characteristics of the relief

(either mountainous or flat) , the

distance to the sea, the average

rainfall and conditions soil .

Amazon:

The Amazon region of Colombia

or just Amazon, comprising 41%of the national territory and is

the least populated area of the

country.

region of Colombia consists of

Western, Central and Eastern

cross the country to the northeast

The island region of Colombia is the set

of Colombian marine islands far from the

coast inland , such as the Archipelago ofSan Andres and Providencia in the

Atlantic Ocean and the islands Malpelo

and Gorgona in the Pacific Ocean . It

forms a proper region due to the

discontinuity and distance from their

territories. It does not include islands inrivers or lakes.

Orinoco

The Orinoqua is a geographical region

of Colombia determined by the

Orinoco River basin , and located in

the east of the country is also known as

the Llanos Orientales. It is anecosystem that is characterized by a

plateau . The region lies between the

rivers Arauca , Guaviare , Orinoco and

the Piedmont llanero.

Pacific

The Pacific region of Colombia is

located to the west of the country ,

bordering the Pacific Ocean , from

which it takes its name. It is part of

Choc and is divided into two areas

marked by Cape Corrientes.

Panama is bordered to the north ,south to Ecuador , to the east by the

Western Cordillera of the

Colombian Andes and west by the

Pacific Ocean . The main cities are

Buenaventura , Tumaco and

Pretoria . It developed the Tumaco -La Tolita .
