Famous Cities

New York, Tokyo, Paris and other big cities are exciting places to live in. There are many interesting places to see and things to do. People can visit different museums, churches, great stores, gyms, beautiful gardens, famous universities and others.

But there are serious problems in big cities. The cost of living is high and there are many people in some communities. Every year many people from the country move to the cities looking for better opportunities to find jobs, to study at good schools and to receive good medical care.

Animals that live in the Arctic are fewer each time. Environmental groups are campaigning against exploitation of the Arctic. They think its better to built a world park, free from people and pollution.

Polar bears live in the Arctic; penguins populate the Antarctic. Fish is the food for millions of seabirds and seals. But man damages the Polar Regions using aerosol gases, which make a hole in the ozone layer of the North Pole. The rays from the sun now reach the earth directly and the greenhouse effect can dissolve the polar icecaps.

Ozone layer: A layer of ozone high above the earths surface that helps to protect the earth from the suns rays.

Icecaps: A permanent covering of ice, especially around the North and South Poles.
