So, by the time you read this, I’ll most likely be a Dad for the first time, and will be changing nappies instead of records for a while.

I’ll also be joining a pretty cool list of DJ Dads, including Mr Mr, Mark Pickup, Rod Lee Winters, Mach 4, Matthew Charles, Marty Metcalf and loads more. But in the mean time, if you notice a few more typos than normal in the magazine, please excuse my sleep-deprived brain. And in the meantime, enjoy this 100 page issue, which is bursting at the seams with local content.

FROM ThE NEW location, to the high calibre guestlist, this year’s Middle East Film and Comicon was a spectacle. We started off by asking Sylvester McCoy if he preferred to play the seventh Doctor Who or Radagast The Brown in ‘The hobbit,’ and then chatted with Seth Green – as you do – who was as hilarious as expected, and a genuinely nice man. Gus Fring from Breaking Bad, AKA Giancarlo Esposito we weren’t so sure about: maybe he stayed in character but he seemed irritated when we met him. Max Landis, writer of the excellent Sci-Fi opera ‘Chronicle’ was back for his third MEFCC, this time as co-host and he pretty much stole the show. The ‘larger-than-lfe’ gentleman was hilarious and guided those ‘awkward press conference’ moments like a true pro. The celeb highlight was the ‘video conference’ with Stan Lee. The marvellous, ‘Marvel’ mastermind was on tip-top form, and for a 91 year old, he raised the roof of a packed ‘Cine Club’ marquee, sharing his stories of Spider-Man, Iron-Man, The hulk, Thor and The Fantastic Four. It was a truly memorable encounter. With a vast ocean of geeky retail stalls selling everything from T-shirts, comics, Japanese vinyl toys, 80s video consoles to table-top/role-play game supplies and a cracking cast of artists including Stanley Lau, humberto Ramos, Wafa al Marzouqi, Saleh al Braik, Qais Sedki, our wallets were much lighter on departure. MEFCC 2014 was by far the best yet and we’re very much look forward to seeing what the organisers have in store for 2015. Live long and Comicon! – Marty Metcalf

Every Monday, the Media One venue is offering the 2kg meat challenge – never fear though, this is a group offer, so for Dhs599 you get all the meat you could eat including lots of different cuts, sides and sauces, salads and a bottle of house wine. Come the end we were literally licking the sauces off the plate, and booking ourselves in for a repeat performance the week after. happy Mondays indeed.

Local news

Audio tonic might have been one of the early sunset adopters in club land, but they have a few good competitors now, including last Friday of the month night 121 BPm at the Story Rooftop. As the name suggests, they play music up to 121 BPM, meaning funk, bassline and nu-disco beats are thrown down by resident Rich Round, with Megadon Betamax and Si Greatrix on support. april 25 from 4-9pm.

Blue Marlin Ibiza UAE have had a few bits of bad luck this season, with two of their biggest headliners – Dixon and Jamie Jones – cancelling at short notice. Fair play to the Ghantoot club for replacing them with quality replacements so quickly, but the next biggy on their radar is Chilean/Swiss DJ, producer and Vagabundos party promoter, luciano. he’ll be bringing his colourful house sounds to Blue marlin ibiza uae on friday april 25, and as ever, get down early to avoid the queues.

Warehouse Dubai are back with another stonking 2 headliner line up on Friday May 16, including EZ and Jaguar Skills. We caught up with the Garage don EZ to chat bass music, the Boiler Room and why he’s open to a Dubai radio show…

Welcome to the city, any ideas on What to expect? I first played in Dubai a few years ago and I’m excited to bring back the newer sounds of UKG/house and Garage, along with those classic Garage cuts and 4/4 beats. Expect to hear quick mixing, lots of vocals, bass with a bit of CDJ trickery and crossfader action!

it’s been a very good period for british music recently, especially bass music – hoW has that influenced hoW you play? It’s important to reflect new music genres and I’ve definitely incorporated bass music into my sets. When I first started

DJing I was heavily influenced by Detroit Techno and Chicago House which I find that a lot of the new music today has many elements from. In moving with the times, my sets now include plenty of bass beats, alongside UKG; so hopefully a good representation of the British music scene.

your boiler room set Went viral pretty quickly, that must have felt a bit odd having started your career off doing much the same thing in your pirate radio days? I started out hosting shows on pirate radio stations, moving on to legal station Kiss FM in

Page 35: Infusion # 222: April 20-May 4 '14

2000. Technology has enabled me to take the sound of UKG to a wider audience via channels such as the Boiler Room – my first set for them has been watched by half a million viewers – and I feel honoured to be part of this online revolution which has enabled me to broadcast to a worldwide audience.

dubai has a very commercial radio scene, With only a feW strong alternative shoWs – as a radio veteran, any advice on hoW We can help change that? It’s important to embrace new music and I’ve been lucky in the UK that the radio scene allows for stations to program specialist music shows. Kiss FM UK, BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra all push new music that’s come from the clubs and broadcast it to a daytime audience. For Dubai to change, they need to allow for club DJs and those with specialist music knowledge to host shows on their stations, trusting them with their play lists. I would happily host a radio show in Dubai!

you’re playing With Jaguar skills, do you think you’d be able to teach him a thing or tWo on the decks, or vice versa? This will be my first time seeing Jaguar Skills live, so I am excited to hear him play as I have only heard audio and video sets online. As his DJ name states, he has skills so it will be great to watch another technical DJ live...

as a dJ With great skills, What’s your take on the neWer generation of dJs, Who are able to use auto sync etc? I am a strong believer that a DJ should be able to mix from the traditional turntable with vinyl setup but with innovations, technology and the slow death of vinyl, I understand that this is not possible. So while it is important to have the ability to mix tracks together without any sync/beatmatch assistance, you also need to know your crowd and the music you’re playing. On a personal note, I would rather a slightly off the beat mix than to use the auto sync feature, but that’s just me I suppose...

OK so here goes, there have been so many amazing tracks to try and recall over the past 8 years, but these have been some of the most defining, and the reasons why…

2006 – lifelike & kris menace – ‘discopolis’This was a defining track for me, it was a personal and musical turning point as the sound was super upfront with the powerful but disco edged synth stabs. I was playing this a lot at the time and was one of the first tracks I aired on my audio tonic Radio 1 show in May 2006. It’s such a timeless track, fusing electro with the current nu disco sounds.

2007 – leger & lake – ‘striped floWer’I'm pleased to say we booked both these guys at 360º before they were even known! Sebastien Leger & Chris Lake

When we heard that house institution audio tonic was turning 8, we got in touch with promoter and DJ Mike Bufton AKA Mr Mr, to take a trip down memory lane with him and find the anthems that have defined their night…

An aural history of audio tonic

Page 39: Infusion # 222: April 20-May 4 '14

churned out a trippy, techy electro led number called ‘Striped Flower’, it was one of our biggest peak time tracks at 360º and walked the fence between underground and easy to swallow for those who didn’t know much about music with it’s very cool melodic patterns. Another defining track for our musical policies.

2008 – hideo kobayashi – ‘kaze’ We’ve always liked to break new artists and music, sounds, styles, sub genres whatever you want to call them, and hideo Kobayashi from Japan turned out a track called ‘Kaze’ in 2008. A percussive drum led bass laden jazzy progressive journey that just builds and builds and builds. To this day I don’t think that track got the attention it deserved, listening to it

now still gives me goosebumps!

2009 – marek hemmann – ‘gemini’This is just genius, the sexy sax lick and pulsing sub bass line just draws you in, you cannot help but shake your arse! I remember this on a very warm May night just before it was released and the place going absolutely mental!

2010 – tigerskin – ‘hole in the sky’One of my favourite dance floor tracks of all time, less is more and stands testament to the talent of this guy’s ability to create captivating, intelligent house music. This track really is outstanding, and again its sound is so representative of

audio tonic in so many way.

Page 40: Infusion # 222: April 20-May 4 '14

2011 – maceo plex – ‘vibe your love’We’ve always walked the line of accessibility and credibility well, we don’t want to be a super underground brand playing music we just don’t believe in, it’s always forward thinking but melodic and at the same time powerful. We picked up on Maceo Plex way before a lot of people, and let’s face it at the time his sound was super refreshing… exactly what we stand for.

2012 – huxley – ‘let it go’We are all for big bottom end and this track was the first of a new sound coming through the genres fusing house, Techno and UK Garage swing/percussion to a T! huxley nailed it with ‘Let It Go’ and it played a big part of many of the audio tonic resident Dj sets over the whole season/year.

2013 – dusky – ‘vanishing point’Sheer class from the duo with ‘Vanishing Point’, having said that at least 2 or 3 of their offerings from 2012/13 could well be included here also (‘Mystics’ must get a mention).

2014 – raxon – ‘diventure’he’s our secret weapon, and a guy who’s doing something very right at the moment. I’ve always been very ‘respectful’ of Rax’s productions, but he’s come out of the blocks this year and proved he means business and made me a true fan of his music. his only downfall… his few grey beard strands. But sure they won’t affect him too much.

A coming force on the house market, Hot

Creations star Richy Ahmed

returns to Blue Marlin for

another dose of bass-heavy house, techno

and disco as part of their

2nd Birthday. We caught up

with him to talk Shamans, The

Drums and why he’s the hardest

partier…

There seems to be a core bunch of uk DJ’s dominating the house scene, is it like a family where you’re all happy to help each other out?yeah it’s like a family, I mean even people from different labels in different scenes are involved. Producers tune in to each other, they get each other’s vibe and experiences, everyone’s pretty friendly, especially the UK bunch. We’re all a good bunch of lads, even from the different types of groups as well, house, techno, they’re all a good crew.

What have been the highlights for you gig wise this year? One of the best gigs for me this year have been Sub Club, I played for 4 and a half hours just last week, it was awesome. The crowd were amazing, sound system was wicked. you really got to take what you want, you build up, build up and then it just goes off. Also I played at El Row in Barcelona, and I closed the terrace outside. That was really super special, playing outside to a few thousand of people, mad vibes, it was really wicked.

Blue Marlin 2nd Birthday feat. Richy Ahmed + Martinez Brothers, Blue Marlin Ibiza UAE, Friday May 2.

you’re part of the Hot Creations crew, who would you say enjoys the parties the most?Probably me.

at the end of last year you had a huge hit with ‘The Drums’. How did the track come to life and when did you realise it was going to take off?I wrote the lyrics, I wrote the vocals and then the drums came into the track and then the hi hats. I had Kevin in mind from the beginning, he’s a friend and I liked his stuff, so when I sent it to him, I got it back from him and it sounded exactly like I wanted it to and he had pulled bits in himself and when I laid it down properly with the full instrumental, that’s when it really came to life. you’re down to play kazantip later on in the year, have you played before? are you ready for the hedonism?yeah, I’m ready for it. I went last year, it was really cool and really different. Great nightlife, cool people, different atmosphere. It’s really honest, there’s no snootiness, they just like to have a really good time.

Who’s the most interesting person in your phonebook?Probably my cousin. he’s a shaman, he trained to be a shaman in Peru for 10 months, he’s very cosmic now. What can we expect from your set in Dubai?Similar to what I like most, a mixture of house, techno, disco, blending it nice, keeping the energy up.

We dig into the Stomp history books, to bring you the facts you need to know ahead of their 5 day run at the World Trade Centre from April 30…

Stomp began life in Brighton, UK, in 1991, founded by Luke Cresswell and Steve McNicholas who used a variety of every day percussion instruments in their shows.

Stomp has no words, it has no melody, which is part of the reason it’s been so successful – it crosses borders, with the focus on rhythm, the basis of all good music.

Literally anything can and has been used in the show, including brooms, dustpan lids and even shopping trolleys.

In 2006, Stomp sailed past the 5,000 show mark, and has performed in virtually every country across the world.

Stomp have been included in several big commercials, including for Coca Cola, Toyota and SEAT cars, while they were also involved at that the 2012 Summer Olympics Closing Ceremony in London.

Ahead of the Blended festival which brings together Joss Stone, Elvis

Costello, Aloe Blacc and more across 2 days, we trawled the archives to

find 5 facts about Mr Costello…

his real name is Declan Patrick Aloysius MacManus. Costello is his Grandmother’s name, and he took Elvis as a joke, which maybe wasn't the best idea, when Mr Presley dropped dead 8 months later.

he was married to the Pogues’ bassist Caitlin O'Riordan and and then married Canadian jazz artist Diana Krall, who's also at Blended.

Elvis Costello's proto-geek image was created by Stiff Record owners, Dave Robinson and Jake Riviera, who convinced Costello to don a tight-fitting suit and a pair of Buddy Holly glasses for promotional purposes.

he doesn't have a high opinion of music journalists: ‘Writing about music is like dancing about architecture - it's really a stupid thing to want to do.’

Elvis Costello and his backing band The Attractions were famously banned from Saturday Night Live for 20 years. Filling in for the Sex Pistols, they were due to play ‘Less Than Zero,’ but Costello stopped the song after a few bars, and played ‘Radio Radio’ instead, a punk battle-cry of a song that decried the commercialization of radio.

80s pop band The Blow monkeys are back in Dubai, and bringing their ‘jazz punk’ sound to Century village on Thursday may 1st. A New wave pop and rock group founded in 1981, the band blended a brand new sound with cutting political lyrics, making them a fierce prospect at the time. Their debut 1984 album, Limping For A Generation, combined their love of Marc Bolan and T Rex with sinister post punk. But it was their 1986 album that spawned their biggest hit ‘Digging your Scene,’ before covering ‘you Don’t Own Me’ for the Dirty Dancing soundtrack, which sold 40million copies and stayed at the Number 1 spot for 8 weeks.

Album Reviews...

FOSTER ThE PEOPLE make incredibly catchy indie pop, perhaps as a direct result of lead singer Marcus Foster’s past as a jingle writer. And you don’t get many better than ‘Pumped Up Kicks’ from the band’s last album, a sure fire radio and indie club hit. With Marcus Foster’s dusky voice and their 80s style synths to the fore, as well as their ridiculously catchy, repetitive choruses, there are still plenty of pop moments on Supermodel. But the three year gap has allowed the band to grow and develop their skills. Tracks like ‘The Truth’ hint at a band experimenting with a darker sound, with deeper vocals and a lowered tempo, while ‘Goats In Trees’ puts the focus on strong, emotive vocals, the synths and guitars toned down to let their other side shine. With the same pop hooks as before, but with an added darker soul, Foster The People have proved they can be just as serious as any other alternative pop band on the scene. – Steph McFlurry

TyCHo – aWake Electronic/Ambient I tychomusic.com/awake/ SyNESThESIA IS ThE CONDITION when you see music as colours. Tycho’s main man, San Franciscan ambient/electronic producer has done his best to bring that condition to life, with his 4th album, conjuring an 8 track session that sounds like an Instragram montage, all hazy filters and stunning landscapes. Fittingly, he’s a photographer by day and musician by night, and on his follow up to the well received Dive, those skills have combined to create a reflective, woozy, colour and music saturated album. Clearly indebted to Boards of Canada and at times M83, Awake takes their framework and ups the tempo and smoothes out the rougher edges, creating flowing, rolling and rumbling tracks like ‘Apogee’ and ‘Montana’, while there are also down-tempo, sunset numbers like ‘Dye’ and ‘Awake.’ Expect to hear Tycho soundtracking a glorious, high definition BBC nature program soon.

nikoTin – PanoDRama Rock nikotinmusic.com/The UAE – and indeed the Middle East – has a thriving rock and metal scene. And with their first album, Nikotin could easily be the poster boys for the accessible side of rock in the region.

Case in point is track five on Panodrama, ‘Overloaded,’ a scuzzy, guitar-solo heavy pop rock track that even comes with its own crowd-sourced extended sing-along. The 8 track album covers most bases: there’s up-tempo opener ‘Ride’ and its Guns’n’Roses homage, sweet and sour melodic rock number ‘Broken Dreams,’ would-be radio hits like ‘The Game’ and ‘In The Eyes’ and lush downtempo orchestral track ‘Life.’ With a hefty dose of pop polish spread over the top, this is a very slick debut album, and one that will hopefully springboard local band Nikotin onto bigger and better things.

RIP Frankie Knuckles(Jan 18th 1955 - March 31st 2104)

Page 73: Infusion # 222: April 20-May 4 '14

On March 31st I woke up in disbelief at the sad news that Frankie Knuckles had passed on. The global outpouring of love that followed was quite amazing. how did one man affect so many lives? Well I can give you my account how he and house music changed mine and countless others around the world lives. FK began DJing in NyC in the mid 70s at the Continental Baths with childhood friend a certain Larry Levan of legendary disco/house joint, the Paradise Garage, but it would be his move to Chicago in 1977 and the residency at The Warehouse that would change the world. This is where the term house music originated, so you can trace Frankie Knuckles to the big house boom. I was 15 when I first heard The Nightwriters ‘Let The Music Use you, which was an early FK production and this introduced me to house which in turn changed my life. I started going to clubs, changed how I dressed, gave up my job and became a DJ and promoter, I moved to Ibiza, traveled the world and have been involved in dance music ever since! At the time, no one knew that Frankie’s take on Disco music, which in turn influenced house music, would have

such a global impact. Although created in America, it was the UK’s embracing of the sound that created the last sub culture revolution which in turn created the global music scene today. I got to meet Frankie in the late 90s/early 2000 and was honoured and humbled to have promoted several parties with him as our guest DJ and to warm up for him too. he had time for everyone without any fuss and always greeted you with that huge joyous smile. his music always had a touch of class and finesse, lush strings, beautiful keys and always an uplifting mostly gospel vocals. Musically, he had some huge hits, including ‘your Love,’ ‘Tears’ and ‘The Whistle Song,’ all of which helped define house music over the last 30 years. If it wasn’t for Frankie Knuckles you wouldn’t have house music, if it wasn’t for house music you wouldn’t have the global scene you’re dancing and listening to today. I will leave you with a very fitting Frankie knuckles quote: “The day you think your bigger than the music, you’re finished.”

your love, Buff Wise

Peace, love & House x

one thing you might not know about me is… My DJ Name ‘Don Corneille’ is actually my real name i.e. middle name Donford, last name Corneille.

my worst ever job was… Flipping Burgers at 4am because I was starving and McDonalds delivery service is a myth.

my favorite ever record is… Ninja Man - ‘Murder Dem’ (anything with the ‘Sleng Teng’ riddim, that’s where it began).

DJing is much like… Making love: It can be euphoric, lazy, good, bad and unpredictable… in a word risky!

Dubai’s clubbing scene is… Incomparable and unexplainable.

i’m really proud of… All my DJ sets, they constantly evolve!

What track could you drop in every set?I try to keep every set completely different, with the exception of the joints that are expected.

i can’t live without… My kicks. Fun Fact: 368 and counting.

my biggest DJ achievement to date is… Getting appreciation and approval by legends that I grew up looking up to.

What is your guiltiest pleasure? Jaffa Cakes. In talks with airlines to put boards up saying bring me some from the UK.

if you could DJ in any decade which would it be… The 90s, that’s when I fell in love with music.

if i could go back-to-back with any other DJ it would be… The late DJ AM.

i’m not a politician but… New World Order! That is all.

Weird News...There’s taking the p***, and there’s taking a bath in a vat of milk in the cheese-making factory you work at. One of the workers, Artem Romanov, 27, said it had been an impromptu act to celebrate the birthday of one of the men. Another, Ruslan Ostanin, 26, said it was done: “So that we can show our customers how the wonderful cheese is being made.” The cheese factory is now closed for 6 weeks, and has left a sour taste among locals, with Savely Maslow, 57, commenting: “We were left feeling like idiots because we support local business by buying the products, and they insult us like this by washing their filthy bodies in the food they then expect us to eat.”

A US court stenographer has been accused of ignoring trial details and instead repeatedly typing “i hate my job”. At least ten convictions could be overturned after stenographer Daniel Kochanski failed to deliver transcripts that New york judges were expecting. The New york Times said in one case he should have typed a sheet of questions and answers, ‘instead it was gibberish,” a source told the paper. “he hit random keys or wrote, “I hate my job. I hate my job”, over and over.”

CoolWith the Dub Pistols in town for a live show, we decided to pit their

Dubai-based mC olly Wood against veteran frontman Barry ashworth.

The verdict: It’s a fight to the end this issue, but Barry proves that older is definitely wiser with his cucumber cool answers.

BaRRy ollyWho’s the coolest person in your phone book?

That would have to be my mum. My Fiancee Nicola. We’re getting married this year, so this felt like the best answer, I win at home, even if I lose on this page.

What’s the longest you’ve gone without sleep?

3 days is my record.

Not sure that I’ve properly slept my whole life, I try to juggle a lot of things on a daily basis and that fills my head up. Rave wise: 3 days without sleep, I was a mess.

your new record/track is the coolest because…We have Neville Staples (Ex Specials), Earl 16, Rodney P

Chezidek, Dark horizon and many other cool guests on it.

Greg Stainer’s 2 year old daughter Kiera likes it, and she buys more records legally than any of Barry’s fans.

What’s your best claim to fame?Meeting Princess Diana, Wills

and harry at Pinewood studios many years ago. Also meeting Michael Jackson and writing a song with Busta Rymes for the

film Blade 2.

I was introduced to James Cameron once and told him I liked him in Entourage...

it’s not big and clever but… I like to drink a litre of Vodka at

each show.Sorry, were you describing Barry or was this a question?

What’s your answer to everything? What could possibly go wrong? Inshallah.

What’s the best insult you could give each other? your mamma got red eyes she

looks like a pager… No point hurling insults at Barry unless he’s got his hearing aid on.

BLuE MARLin iBizA uAE after 2 years of packed out Fridays, and with a DJ hit-list including marco Carola and Luciano who have dropped beats at their lush beach-side venue, it’s clear that Blue

marlin ibiza uaE do clubbing as well as their Spanish counterpart. But with a high end restaurant and popular Saturday brunch, we sent down our chow man Stephen Day to investigate their food and drink

Page 89: Infusion # 222: April 20-May 4 '14

Confession time. Firstly I’ve never visited Blue Marlin UAE and secondly I had a set of preconceptions about the venue. I’m not one to hang with the Jumeriah Janes or Palm Trunk Paul’s, nor the financial service salesmen (hello Bart, hello Ben) who I thought inhabited Blue Marlin Ibiza UAE, but I ditched these notions and approached my first visit as agnostically as possible. While Friday is the main attraction, with thousands descending for some Balearic beats, Saturday is a much more laid back affair, and we arrived at 1pm, got wristbanded up and strolled down to the beach club itself.

Blue Marlin itself is a white palace on the sand: sofas, tables, chairs, everything is white but it all had a lived in look to it, making it feel more homely. With a table for four overlooking the sea and hotel grounds, our host Simon talked us through the brunch options: the food is fixed but there are 3 drinks packages, 1 non alcoholic, 1 with Champagne or the Sangria option that we all plumped for. When in Spain and all that... First to arrive was a giant tray full of interesting morsels, a bowl of this, a plate of that, a skewer of something. There was a vibrant smoked salmon and beetroot dish, a

Page 90: Infusion # 222: April 20-May 4 '14

succulent kebab of chicken meatballs, some very pleasant tuna Maki, cheese puffs, beef pastries, chili squid and prawn Carpaccio. Everything was well prepared and the whole thing worked as a whole. Whilst our glasses were charged we reflected on the venue: it’s very chilled and relaxed, with plenty of greenery, and even though it’s just a few Kms from the Dubai border, it felt like you were in a different continent, let alone Emirate. Our mains brought us back into our senses, with a fresh vegetable stir-fry, slow braised lamb shoulder with sweet baby potatoes and some of the tastiest tuna, lemon

thyme pasta I’ve eaten in a very long time. Alongside this, came two large Flintstone-like glazed beef ribs that had been cooked to perfection on the BBQ, all washed down with more sangria. Before desert was served, we were offered a drilled out coconut to share, which was a lovely touch, and cleansed the palate perfectly. If there were any grumbles about the food, then we could perhaps have asked for a fruit salad or a boozy trifle, but the crisp lemon sorbet

Page 91: Infusion # 222: April 20-May 4 '14

with Champagne foam was top class. Fed and watered, we retired to the other side of the main room and relaxed on the sofas, taking in the afternoon sun. The DJ had been working hard all afternoon and as the daylight started to close in, he ramped it up a little creating a nice sundown vibe. The drinks continued to flow and the service was impeccable, making it the perfect weekend round down. And one I’ll definitely be back for.

Monkey Out...

ShIPFACED

Clubbing is about having fun, letting go, and if you’re lucky, sucking someone’s face at the end of the night. And clubbing in cool places is about as good as it gets – raves in disused warehouses in London, raves on the beach in Goa, and in Dubai, raves on a super yacht.

Except one boat owner took the p*** last week when he took his yacht out for a night time spin with a full crew of clubbers on board despite there being severe weather forecasts that night. And so it came to pass, as a biblical storm brought torrential rains, Thor-like winds and enough lightning to power the grid for days. And what did said ship owner do?

he carried on regardless out at sea until 3am, when his boat was pushed by the gale onto the Marina rocks, forcing the clubbers on board to literally jump for their lives, leaving his boat marooned on the rocks. Luckily no one was seriously hurt (apart from the owner, who’s stuck with a million dirham repair bill), but next time you head out on a boat rave, check there’s not an actual monkey underneath the Captain’s hat…
