Big Brass Rehearsal Experience what it is like to play in a professional symphony orchestra brass ensemble. Successful applicants are invited to take a seat next to an ASO player for a rehearsal of selected repertoire, followed by an informal performance for families and friends. Conducted by Jim Dempsey. Auditions will be held on Sunday 29 June, 2014. Open to trumpet, trombone, tuba, horm and percussion players of medium to advanced standard. Strathalbyn Bands FestivalFor the first time, the brass players of the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra will join concert bands from all over the state for the annual Strathalbyn Bands Festival performing their own set as part of the program.Held over two Sundays in August, this annual festival attracts up to 20 community bands from around the state.Sunday 3 & 10 August (ASO Brass participate on 10 August)Strathalbyn Town Hall
Big Band Rehearsal with Jim DempseyBrass identity and former Adelaide Symphony Orchestra player, Jim Dempsey, will lead the rehearsal of the Strathalbyn Concert Band who will join with the Goolwa Concert Band for this special rehearsal. Others are welcome to join them. This is open to all concert band instruments, not just brass and percussion. Please bring your own music stand.

Big Band Rehearsal and the Big Brass Rehearsal are Just Add Water Projects made possible through a partnership between the Australia Council, Country Arts SA and Alexandrina Council and the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra to stimulate regional communities through arts.

Tuesday July 22: 7 – 9:30pm, Grainger Orchestral Studio Adelaide (Big Brass Rehearsal) • (a bus will be provided from Strathalbyn Town Hall and return if there is a need)
AUDITION INFORMATION
• 7 – 10 minute auditions will be conducted by Jim Dempsey• Audition date: Sunday June 29, 2014• Audition Venue: Strathalbyn Town Hall, High Street Strathalbyn• Audition times will be allocated upon receipt of this application• Please bring a piece (or section of a piece) to play lasting no longer than 3 minutes that best
demonstrates your ability• Following the audition, you will be notified of acceptance within a week and supplied with the
appropriate instrumental part. • What we are looking for:
o A medium/advanced standard of playing (e.g. AMEB 4th Grade and above)o Good intonationo Rhythmic accuracy
