District Council of Cleve TOURISM & COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT OFFICER I N F O R M A T I O N O N L Y Subject Community Garden

Meeting Date 8 August 2017

Report Number 23.4.1

1. PURPOSE OF REPORT

To update Council on the Community Garden Project budgeted in 2016/2017 financial year.

2. INFORMATION

The Cleve Community Garden is operational thanks to a small group of volunteers with a passion for gardening and produce. The project had a budget of $8000 and underspent by $556.25. The funds were allocated to signage acknowledging Council as the key facilitator and funding body, the installation of a water meter, raised garden beds, an equipment shed, earthworks, equipment and various trees and seedlings. The group are very productive and have future ambitions to supply produce to community groups for various events and functions, as well as utilising the space for education. Always encouraging new members, there is also scope for Complete Personnel clients that are required to complete a number of hours weekly to be involved. Bridget Johnstone
